They change it every year, if they made it 8/1 this year then almost every MD team would have went. Most teams have a few kids born in August 03 which is why they did not go. They need to make the change now before try outs start. Last year they made the change after rosters were set and set by using the 5/1 date from the previous year. Rec,Club,US Lacrosse,WSYL all need to get in tune with each other to move this sport forward together. Age or Grade, just get it right so all can play by one set of rules.

Naptown competition for high school teams ridiculous. If that isn't a world championship caliber lineup for 2021 - 2018, I don't know what is.

Where are Crabs?

Crabs rarely do a Hogan tournament. Crabs also end their season 4th of July weekend every year.
They might be the only Top teams not at this event.

Aug 1 may let some players play but it will hardly get most MD teams with holdbacks to play.

Here is 2016 UA age list for 2019.( last year rising 9th graders) 24 players born before Aug. MD had a higher concentration of these holdbacks due to MIAA kids on team. I suspect it is much much more on the MD teams as obviously all holdbacks didnt make UA team.
It is sad when 34 out of 112 are heldback on UA team. So I suspect short of it being a grade based tournament MD top teams wont be competing or be competitive without their holdbacks.

2019's

We saw how good the Crabs were at NLF, Big 4 HHH, and Young Guns (with ringers). 3 tourneys and they are done. They are a bubble team for even getting an invite to Millon Championship (without ringers)

1/1 is the new soccer standard used by most international teams. It is coming.

Soccer went to 1/1 to line up with the rest of the soccer world.... that date does not apply to lacrosse which has a strong grade based component to the established teams. There's nothing wrong with a date that aligns with grades, it just needs to be enforced as a strong date and not the suggestion that it is now because obviously people abuse the school system for their own athletic purposes.

Hockey went to 1/1. It is likely the date the just makes the most sense. Just looK at the year to see if they comply and you don't have to worry about months and days.

This isn't week 1 . Teams have come a long way since then. API had a very good showing last weekend. Don't expect the same result from week 1.
Express is the team to beat.

API 0-3 on the day at NXT. Goes to show you how weak the competition was at wsyl. Better go back to Denver if you want to win games.

Actually is is extremely confusing to most parents. The definition of U13 changes every year and to make things worse the day the definition changes is a moving target. U13 one year is U14 the next. Would it be easier to say this is a 2004 bracket or 2003 bracket for the birthyear and not have to worry about it. Most change the definition on 9/1, but some fall tournaments (Dicks TOC, others) still use the summer definition of U13. Somethimes the date is 5/1, sometimes it is 9/1, sometimes it is 12/1.

Birth year (1/1) is the way to go. Makes too much sense not to - as hockey and soccer have already figured out.

Einstein it's just bc of the kids two years older. Everyone knows that. Stop trying to make it sound like the MD teams who cheat are the best teams. Play kids your own age and you cannot match up.

Api/ diamondbacks is not having a good day but has nothing to with competition. Some of the team got back Wednesday and the rest got back Thursday . Then drive to philly to play a tournament these boys are tired if they had a week off like normal and come in fresh it would different results. Their some good teams out here . Api / Diamondbacks should pulled out but it was paid for .

Einstein, stop holding your kids hand. Only the weak minded parents complain for their kids to have an even steaven game at everything they do. My kid is on the younger side and he loves playing kids at any age especially ones that are in his grade that might be 1 year older. His best friend is foot taller and 30lbs heavier than him.
Play in a different league, there are a lot to choose from. Until rules change this is the landscape and no clubs are breaking any rules. Cheating is hardly the case. Do you not know the rules in MD club lacrosse? you clearly do not. Einstein!

Everyone knows the altitude change makes it harder to play. They were used to more oxygen. Also, the time change coming back causes them to lose 3 hours of sleep like daylight savings inreverse. Also, they probably were wearing the shiny new wsyl cleats which game them blisters. The other teams had so many advantages.

Yes Api / Diamondbacks are rank 3 in the world .. you can't say that because you can't compete in Age base tournament .

API and all of the other teams can't either without dropping kids from the roster.

[lacrosse] post of the night...congrats! According to your logic, clubs exploiting the age based loophole aren't doing anything against the rules. Using that same logic, you might as well administer HGH or steroids to your son's fifteen year old 2022 teammates since it's not "breaking any rules". I'm guessing your an idiot simply based on your logic, however your writing confirms it.

If the grade based competition does not fit within your ethical arena, then simply do not have your son participate in the grade based system. There are plenty of tournaments that have the age based categories that clubs can participate in other than the WSYL. But to participate in something and then complain about that system when you know the rules up front is a cop out by adults. If you know the rules going in and agree to play, then STFU. You have no basis for your tired, sorry whining.

And just to be perfectly clear in an "attempt" to stop your whining and complaining about the Hawks and their ages, Hawks have 19 of their 21 boys on their roster are age 13 right now!!! The 2 that are 14 year olds just turned 14 this spring/summer and weren't even on the team last year, and these boys are also two of the smallest on the team. To continue to state the facts, Hawks beat API several times last year (without those kids) so there goes your major excuse. So you better find another excuse like "the altitude" or "jet lag" like you tried the other day. We all know which API parent is posting these excuses, just stop and let your kid enjoy playing against the top competition of all the age based teams (which is the rule of the league and tournaments your team chooses to play in). Or the other option is, go find a team who plays in a different league! Remember, after next year your son will be playing grade based for the rest of his HS and hopefully college years so stop being that "helicopter parent".

Not the same parent you were commenting to..I agree with you. Yes the travel and conditions play a factor but should NOT be used as excuses. The is 1 REASON why this team hasn't been as competitive...this team loses games because they get are OUTCOACHED. This week most games lost by one goal, fault the coaching. The kids have developed...the game plan hasn't. It's helicopter coaching that holds these kids back from winning and playing to their potential.

The Hawks aren't good because they are older, They are good because they convinced the best kids from a better team (cannons) to join their pretty good team.

Now if API too has a holdback(s), then you are really a waste of space. Maybe you can add a safety pin to your hat so no one will cheer too loud for their team when they play the high priests of API.
