The bad sound bites, at times some very stupid stat padding, and that LI attitude like her coach might hurt her. Tough to root for when it should be a slam dunk win for her.
This is the same type of stuff we fight on our HS team. You want to cheer for kids like this but it's not easy

Signs autographs for kids after games until everyone gets one, visits kids in the hospital, volunteers in the community, team leader, incredible athlete, etc I get all the JS bashing as he is brash and states his opinion, which more often than not are true but yes, he rubs plenty of people the wrong way. Voters shouldn't hold that against her.

This is a very political award the fact Reese heads the committee should not be lost here . Zoe stukenberg will win and to show how crooked it is she doesn't lead her team in Any statistical category which isn't fair. Many people wonder if a different player should of been chosen from our team.

KO....just look what she did for SB. Without her they are a middle of the road team. MD might still have went 22-0 without Stukenberg
Kent is getting a little too much pub here base on a sick champ game. She's not even the best player on her team. Ok that disqualifies you. You clearly have no idea what u are talking about. If you think Apuzzo (a great player btw) is better than Kent, you are out to lunch. That is not based on a sick NC game. It is based on years of watching Kent. That was not an isolated game for Kent. That is how she plays all the time. You are just completely wrong. Kent had a great final 3 games of the season prior to that Apuzzo was essentially their best player in every game including the ACC tournament. I am not a long island homer but Apuzzo contributes more to the team success , Kent while great turns the ball over too much and forces the ball at times, watch the finals she would have had several more turnovers on passes but her teammates bailed her out coming up with the ground balls.

4.0 Biology National Champs Undefeated 3x national champion SENIOR Better liked coach The MD lady wins it over KO and SB Although the crazy stats are going to be hard to overlook. Lets see if politics play a role in the selection All great points for a team award, but it's an individual award and she broke 2 major records with points and assists. Think Lyle Thompson's season when he won. Also, If you pick against her because her coach is pompas you shouldn't have a vote. Maryland no doubt the #1 team in the nation and I believe their fans and coaches believe SB is #2. Like you said hard to overlook the stats but if you want to help grow the game it should be KO in a landslide. Not only do the the fans and coaches believe SB is #2 in the nation, the national polls have them ranked as #2 ending the year. You don't see that often where a team in the final four displaces a team that played in the finals, but well deserved. And KO will win it, not often do they like to step outside of the team that won the national championship to pick a player, often because many great statistical seasons went to players on non contending teams, but SB was right there, and KO was the main reason. National rankings are not a criteria for the award. It could be Ohmiller but don't be surprised if it is not.

No. Watched BC for 4 years now. From the area. If you saw the team pre-Kent and post Kent this year, you would understand. BC struggled to beat Harvard (OT win) for goodness sake. Kent steps on field and they become a wildly different team. Again, Apuzzo is great. Love her. Amazing. Kent is a next level type talent. One that you only see come along a few times a decade. Yes she is that good. You stated that Kent "is not even the best player on her team." There is no one associated with BC, other than a few parents and players that don't like the fact that she comes in half way through the season and takes playing time from some girls, that would sign off on your assessment. There are no long-time women's lacrosse watchers that just witnessed one the best individual performances ever in the NCAAs that would agree w you. Once again, I love Apuzzo, Kent is breathtaking to watch.

It has nothing to do w attitude or coaches or anything other than the trend w the women's selectors and that they prefer midfielders. That's the truth Stukenburg or mcool will win I think MCCool is the dark horse Stukenburg doesn't lead her team in Any statistical category to be the best women's player you have to lead in something.

Who are you picking to start a team? You get 1. Stukenberg Hadnagy McCool KO Hompe Kent (full season) For me it's either Stukenberg or Kent. And I lean Kent. McCool, well because that's a great name and I think I ordered one at McDonalds once.

Even the sport doesn't like the stat padding that's why the trend is to middies and even a defender this year. Last defender to win was 2003 and middies have won 10 of the last 12. SS was the last attack player to win in 2011. With 6 of the last 7 winners from MD, do they go attack and SB???? Hmmmm

Sometimes it pays to just get along. KO was the best player but the bad sound bites and the needless stat building along with her disliked coach and her teams rule bending play cost them.
They went safe with another Middie from the undefeated national champs

Congratulations to Zoe Stukenberg. It helps to be on the championship team. Maryland has taken 7 of the last 8 awards.
Kylie Ohmiller made her mark by breaking the points record. A great season for her as well.

It will just make it that much sweeter when SB wins the National Title next year right here at home. It will make for a great story, great press and a great 30 for 30 on KO when she gets it next year joined on stage with either her sister or CM.

Would love to know who is on the Tewaaraton Award committee. I would venture to guess that Cathy Reese is one of the people. The struggle with Stuckenburg as the winner is that she is only marginally better (if at all) than others on her team. She would not even be considered if she played for a team other than MD. Very good player and incredibly hard worker but best in the country?

She lost it for things unrelated to lacrosse. I think there was a lot of personality baked into the vote. Players personality - Sound bites hurt/ loading up stats in meaningless games, Teams personality - Abrassive & Rough, Coaches Personality - well documented cocky New Yorker She had the best season

Once again, I love Apuzzo, Kent is breathtaking to watch. Your infatuation with Kent is making you blind. Pre- Kent your team was 9-4, with Kent your team was 7-3, not really much different. Beating Harvard in OT was better than losing to Duke .Since Kent returned to play the Navy team went much deeper than anyone expected should we credit Kent with their success also. Who exactly did they beat that they would not have without her, would they have done worse in the ACC tournament. They came into the NCAA tournament and went on a run but who did they really beat .Look at the stats and results pre-Kent vs with her and they are remarkably similar .I guess you could point to the second Syracuse game but Cuse was a sinking ship (look at their early game vs UNC compared to the later game) and a closer loss against MD. On the other hand with Kent the Navy game was much closer and the UNC game was essentially the same.

As for the comment about how she treats opposing players, comes as no surprise, it's the culture of her coach. leaves a nasty taste in people's mouth She lost, yes. Time to get over it, yes. K.O. did deserve it though, but much like two out of the three wins for Cummings the winner wasn't the best player.. Treanor was better. I watched the show and i was very impressed with Z.S. she was very composed and well spoken.. the men's winner ..not so much

As for the comment about how she treats opposing players, comes as no surprise, it's the culture of her coach. leaves a nasty taste in people's mouth Maybe she lost because they want the best lacrosse layer and not the best offensive player. Maybe she lost because those numbers that you all think make her the best player were put up mostly at the expense of completely overmatched teams. If they want her to win the award JS is going to have to schedule as many top teams as possible in non conference , the only problem is very few top teams will be willing to lay them for a few reasons. First reason is they have a horrible reputation for being unsportsmanlike and bordering on being thugs, second the better teams that play in the better conferences have hard enough schedules as is, so why add another difficult game.

You BC people are clowns. You live on this board. Just peppering everyone sad thing is WE know who you are and your embarrassing yourself and your program. Ha ... how do you know? Is it because YOU actually stalk this board? I'm not a "BC person" but hey, I'll take the compliment if it is a choice between being a BC person and a Stony Brook person. BC people are clowns? Ok. The clown show is actually long island, JS and the Stony Brook circus. What a group of jackwagons. Been in the stands many times. Whether it's the parents, the coach or some of the players. Class ain't in the ballpark. Sad.

KO is a great player. The points totals are not the whole story though. Last year's 100 goal scorer proves that. I don't think anyone would argue that CM should have been in the "best player in the game" argument last year. Now KO is different. She IS one of the best players in the game. But the point totals put up against a decent, but not great, schedule, should not be the only determinant.
Here is a breakdown. and yes this matters:
Stony Brook played 22 games. 12 of the games were against weaker opponents. Many ranked well down in the rankings. In those 12 games KO had 46 goals and 57 assists = 103 points = 8.6 points/game.
In the 10 games against tough opponents (including Albany twice which is a stretch), KO had 31 goals and 29 assists. Still very, very good numbers, but the average drops to 6 points a game split evenly between goals and assists.
Now, if you compare the "tough games" by SB to a Maryland, UNC or NU schedule, for examples, the game quality still does not measure up. So there is still one more level of difficulty in schedule that KO still didn't play.
But extrapolating the 6 points a game for KO to a full schedule somewhat more representative of the #4 team in the country, KO still puts up an amazing 132 points. 68 goals and 64 assists. Fantastic numbers by anyone's account, but not record-breaking and now much more debatable relative to the Tewaaraton.
Add-in a Maryland schedule adjustment factor of say .85 to that final total to account for what is still a schedule difficulty disparity, and you end up at 112 points. 58 goals and 54 assists.
So there you have it, KO is a great player. she benefits statistically a great deal by playing a weaker schedule than top players on other teams. Fact, not opinion.

Your'e insane. First you knock her down to 6 goals a game becuase that's what she had against the tougher part of the schedule. So you're implying that everyone else had no easier games and that their entire schedule was as rigorous as SB's toughest 10? And THEN you knock hewr down again because THOSE 10 games were still 15% easier than the other top teams? So to reiterate... you're insane. Let me see the metrics you're basing these statements on.

I wrote the BC clowns post. And in NO way am I a SB supporter. It was a statement based on the behavior of BC on this board since you guys w all of your top recruits finally made a run. SB I am not! My daughter plays on a team that competes w BC. So my statement was based on that.
