Agree, girls not on stat boards on very good teams, many shadowed one on one every game. Looks like stat leaders on low conference teams and in many occasions coach did not sub out and allowed padding.

Stat padding is always on bad teams, with bad coaching, and usually the bad parents that say GO TO GOAL!

As the playoffs come around I think some teams that are usually the best may struggle...2016 girls really played a big role for them.

Farmingdale has always had a great feeder program but the coaches their are just like the YJ's dump out the ball bag and let the great players do their thing. In years like this where they needed some coaching help to raise their game they failed. Kind of feels like Notre Dame and Florida doesn't it?

Oceanside is no great deal. I see this as pick em. Sailors lost to Lynbrook and had some other games that showed they were rightfully placed in conference 2

You HIDE you weak girls on Attack. Toughest thing to do in Women's Lax is playing defense. This coming from someone who's daughter is a mid-fielder.

You attack vs middy vs defense people are funny. Every player is a middy , the ones with the best sticks who are not the greatest runners become attack . The ones who are descent runners but have less stick skills or vision become defense. On occasion you get a stud middy who excels at offense and or defense and should never come off the field that are converted .

You need great vision on defense to see how a play is shaping up and to anticipate the offense. No two ways about that. The goalie does as well. The team relies on her to call out instructions.

Here we go!
Only slight upset is Lynbrook over SS otherwise all the higher seeds win the early rounds. With the new divisions, CSH finally has to play some teams to get another championship. Look for them to upset Wantagh in the finals.
Round 1 PE over Division by +5 Lynbrook over Hewlett by +8 Seaford over FP +3 LV over Bethpage +5
In A Massapequa is best but has been up and down In B GC has an easy run over LB and a down year in Manhasset

Suffolk A Playoff Seeding
1-Ward Melville 189.280 2-Smithtown East 172.140 3-Middle Country 171.430 4-Smithtown West 155.000 5-Northport 154.290 6-Sachem North 145.190 7-Riverhead 130.190 8-H H Hills 120.210 9-West Islip 116.430 10-Huntington 115.900 11-Sachem East 103.580
outside looking in.... 12-Patchogue-Medford 98.760 Coaching is the X factor during the playoffs. The most talented team does not always win. The best coaches will have scouted their opponents and they will prepare accordingly. A well thought out game plan and strategy can make the difference in two evenly matched teams. It can also help to overcome a lack of talent. Sound game planning coupled with smart in-game decisions/adjustments will many times lead to a championship. Ward Melville - Favorite Middle Country - Likely Winner Smithtown East - Has a chance Northport - ?? Sachem North - Possible Huntington - Dark Horse

Bold prediction going with GC in the Nassau B... NO UA All Americans and NO top 10 Nassau scorers. A "down" Year for them, left bereft of talent after their 2016s graduated. They couldn't possibly win it.

They couldn't possibly win it. There are very few schools that can run out 15-20 girls that can play. GC, Manhasset, Wantagh, CSH, always have the deepest talent. Youth programs in those towns don't let the coaches kid score 10 goals a game which kills programs. Most towns have a couple of good players and then they fall off a cliff.Thats why its the same teams year after year at the top. In other towns as long as the coaches kid gets recruited that's all they care about. Team game and Teams win championships

CSH is all about the goalie or they may not have won any conf1 games besides farmingdale

A great defender will be very athletic, fast, have good anticipation etc.... the same skill set that any position benefits from. But most teams don't have the depth to have players like that play defense. Typical trickle down has most teams with the very best players and atheletes playing midfield. I would also agree with previous posts that it it much safer to hide a weak player on attack. Your team can control the action run through an attacker, but an opposing team will target a weak defender and exploit her. But some of the very best players will be attack as well. Most defenders on the college level will be converted midfielders. The hardest part of it all is convincing the athletic and skilled kids to even want to play defense, especially when a team has plenty of talent depth.

The hardest part of it all is convincing the athletic and skilled kids to even want to play defense, especially when a team has plenty of talent depth. Fair statement of the situation. Agreed 100%. It can also be argued that your best athletes would play defense for all of the reasons you named plus one more...ability to change direction quickly (along with the anticipation you mentioned). Also add very high lax IQ...ability to read the offense and anticipate picks and rubs. As you can guess, my daughter was (is) a defender. She's also played some middie in high school and now playing some attack (left-handed attack), although she'll always be a defender at heart. And you're also correct that it's hard to convince a kid to try defender, especially if they are used to scoring. But, once one of them makes that game saving interception or stops a game-winning attacker they may be won over. It takes a special mindset to play the position at a high level. My hat is off to all career defenders.

Recap more lopsided than expected- Plainedge wins by 8 Lynbrook wins by 4 Seaford wins by 8 LV wins by 10 Next Round- Anyone think their might be a competitive game? Wantagh by 8+ over Plainedge Southside by 5 over Lynbrook CSH by 6+ North Shore by 5+

Selfless play and defense wins championships. Selfish play and parents who promote it will lead to a loss in a playoffs. After the loss the parents of the selfish player will blame the coaches. Parents of the selfish player will not care that the team lost as long as their child had multiple goals. Coaches who allow or reward selfish play will never win a championship.

This coach has had some of the best talent on LI for the past few years and has not been able to seal the deal. SE – I think this is the surprise team to watch out for. NP – Loses in the 1st round. SN – Can beat MC in the 1st round. If that happens, they will lose in second round. H – Loses in the 1st round.

So there weren't any real surprises in yesterday's Nassau playoffs. What about today?
Wantagh over Plainedge easily Southside over Lynbrook by a few CSH over Seaford by a lot NS over Locust Valley in a close one
Thoughts?
