[quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]2 2023 YJ B team girls are moving to A. It's official. Poor kids.
That's awesome 27 girls will result in more sideline parents fueding and less playing time. Where do I send my check?
When are these two new mysterious players going to show up to make the roster 27???? I was told "when April practices begin". The A team has been practicing every Sunday so why would they make them wait? They'll be playing in the March tournament One of the new girls is coming from TG In program promotions. I'm sure it'll be the TG girls in the near future. Heard they took a TG girl demoted to B team and was mad. Nice recruiting jobYJ! 2 of them

I think they are trying to get a few more players and will then break up into (2) true A teams and (1) B team

They split them at tryouts. All the good B players left Wright's team and they are now a true B team.

Although there are 3-4 very good players, the team has been polluted by friends and family. CR should have stepped in 2 years ago. Now better girls are leaving the program and mid level b players are being brought up. The best girls will be more frustrated than ever while the bottom tier (majority) will sit bench. Recipe for disaster. They girls who can play will not be happy when the others can't catch and throw!! Meanwhile mommies will be crying pass the ball despite when they do their daughters turn it over.

Delusional? The girls that left weren't the best on Wrights team? Lets see how the summer unfolds I'm sure Wright's team will struggle and Thorn's team will regret not bringing these girls up before they left.

Isn't there a separate YJ thread, why not take the drama there. Let's talk lax. Does anyone think with all these new "club" teams/programs forming this may result in the talent on Long Island becoming diluted. Instead of having a couple of top clubs, where all the talent ultimately go, you end up with weaker teams? Thoughts?

Or the better girls who have gone to different teams can be leaders on their new teams, making their teammates better in the process. It will be fun watching competitive games right here on LI.

Does anyone think with all these new "club" teams/programs forming this may result in the talent on Long Island becoming diluted. Instead of having a couple of top clubs, where all the talent ultimately go, you end up with weaker teams? Thoughts? I think this is an anomaly hitting the 2023 age group alone. 2022 has a strong YJ team and so does 2024 and 2025. In 2023 the talent is spread across multiple clubs but these same clubs are much weaker in the other grad years. Leg-a-C has a strong 2024 team that competes with YJ but the other 2024 teams are weak. Case in point, most LI 2024 teams except Leg and YJ have been beaten by the 2025 YJ team. How that will play out in the long run only time will tell. In summary, 2022 strongly concentrated in YJ, 2023 spread out between TG, YJ and Igloo (and maybe Leg but they have to prove themselves), 2024 YJ and Leg, 2025 is just YJ. The dilution anomaly in 2023, in my opinion, is mostly caused by coaching and politics. A good coach creates a winning team and talent gravitates to it. Those teams get stronger and stronger every year as word gets out. YJ has a leg up on this because of branding so they start out with a good number of girls to pick from but if you have a crappy, disinterested coach the branding only goes so far. In year one, if Thorn had actually coached, the YJ team probably could have established itself as the leader and talent would have concentrated there like in prior years and the grad years after. That wasn't the case so the talent has gone to other clubs and diluted the age group. This is a shame because once you get down to the 410 the girls are older and bigger, the officials have it in for the "dirty NY lacrosse" and you really need a team with great skills and teamwork to overcome the size/age difference and officiating bias. Hopefully sometime soon one of the LI teams will be able to concentrate enough talent to head down to MD and give them a good spanking. TG is looking like the leading contender from LI, maybe some YJ people will get off the Cool-Aide and take the plunge for the good of Long Island lacrosse.

If parents would concentrate more on the coaching and the strength of the teams as a whole, instead of the individuality or "my kid has to be the star on the team" mentality, then talented teams could be created. These clubs are a business, making money off YOU, let's not forget that. These new clubs are forming because of unsatisfied parents who think their kid is not getting enough playing time/ exposure, etc. You can always find good trainers for extra help with stick work etc. But, solid clubs who are able to develop your kids talent, as well as, the team as a whole should be more of the focus. A talented athletic kid only gets better playing with other talented kids, striving to be better. But, unfortunately, in this age group this is not the focus. I have a feeling there will be a lot of jumping ship next year as well. The talent will become more diluted. And, the teams in this age group will not gel or develop as a contending team because of this. Sad.

This has only ever happened once before in LI lax where YJ did not have the top team for and age group. When the 2020s first formed the TG team was better. Fast forward, not anymore, not even close. The big diffence then was the two 2020 teams were very good and could and did beat top Maryland teams. These 2023 teams are a completely different story. Right now, no LI team at 2023 is competitive. All the LI clubs seem so excited because they have a team that is finally near competitive with YJ top team. But it is not because they have a competitive team, it is because the YJs do not have a competitive team.

This is one wacky age group! But mark my word in 2 years there will be YJA and everyone else! All these other teams will be competing at Hofstra for a tee shirt. The best of the best who are serious about playing at the next level will find their way to YJ one way or another.

Ha Maybe the 2023 top YJ team is mediocre, but they will benefit from the club name and will get recruited before all other teams, like all the other top YJ teams. Look at the prime classes being recruited right now, 2020 and 2021. They have more than double the recruits of all the other LI clubs combine. Over the years and every year they are the most highly recruited club in the nation, fact. If you've been in the sport for any length of time you know this, always been that way. So even if the 2023 team is only as good as the other clubs in LI, they still are at a huge advantage over the other clubs. I like the idea of chasing rainbows at other clubs, know many people who have followed that path. Has worked out for some, but most have come to recognize it is a much hard path to recruitment. Good luck whatever path you choose.

The funny thing is that people think being on these mediocre YJ teams are going to get them recruited! Ha This is one wacky age group! But mark my word in 2 years there will be YJA and everyone else! All these other teams will be competing at Hofstra for a tee shirt. The best of the best who are serious about playing at the next level will find their way to YJ one way or another. The best of the best who are serious about playing at the next level will find their way to YJ one way or another. Unlikely! The funny thing is that people think being on these mediocre YJ teams are going to get them recruited! Coaches recruit on talent. Good luck with your philosophy. It's not a huge advantage when you are losing every game. The team has a been the laughing stock of the YJ organization and getting worse. Hiding on a bad team is not a good thing, and certainly not a path to recuitment! Except all the other options on LI are no better.

Regardless of where your daughter plays YJ, TG or any other travel club and your daughter wants to play college lax you will be doing the leg work by attending their camps and clinics. Don't be fooled thinking just because your daughter wears a certain piney college coaches will be flocking to your daughter? Have your daughter play where she develops best.

Where do I sign her up or do I have to move to some dump of a house on the south shore first?
