Not sure she'll get canned...only young coach that happened to was KB-R due to immaturity and bullying.

I don't think she will be canned either. Regardless of what the YJ people are saying, and regardless of what a disgruntled player is saying, she's liked by her players who are mature enough to understand that she is tough on them for a reason. She's tough but fair. I'll take that philosophy from a head coach every time.

Tough but fair is one thing , 6 hour practice because you lost is not only against NCAA rules but punitive, Burning practice gear and play books isn't tough or fair, thats just crazy

My daughter plays for SS and she will tell you that she is tough on them. My daughter respects her and tells me that every practice she learns something that makes her a better Lacrosse player. What more could you want. Exactly! This is the kind of first-hand info that the YJ lemmings hate to hear, because it is factual (A term he YJ aren't familiar with). So what if SS is tough! She's a head coach for a NCAA Division 1 team. This isn't a church league where everybody gets a trophy. Its hard work, and its supporters to be tough. More power to her. The success of her UWLX team is indicative of how she is growing as a coach and can only help her and the Pride as they go forward. She needs to teach them everything that they never learned at TG

What people might not realize is how difficult she can make it to leave the team, she needs to sign a release if a player wants to play in another school. Those who have given a verbal are the ones who are starting to look elsewhere and they should. Those who stay and are not happy will be faking injuries- this way you still get the $$$ but don't have to be subject to Col. Nathan Jessep

Ah...uninformed YJ Parent...its an NCAA regulation that a coach has to "sign a release" from the scholarship if a player wants to play at another school. Its not her regulation. And, why should any coach make it easy to leave a team? They put in the work to get you to their school, so I wouldn't let a player just walk away either. You want them to stay with your program, unless they are a "cancer" to your team, then you happily let them go.

Coach will usually let player leave as long as transferring to out of conference school. If original school is a top 20 team, coach may not sign release to allow player to leave for another top 20 team. Grass isn't always greener. D1 sports is competitive. SS had many players do well since her tenure began at Hofstra. College athletics isn't for everyone. Sometimes coaches yell, sometimes players get benched. D1 coaches (and fans) expect effort and results. Coaches have to make adjustments in order to achieve results and maximize effort. Hofstra had many injuries this past season. Had to use many players that really weren't ready to play at D1 level and many others who played out of position. They will be fine moving forward. They will get new players and coaches and they will be energized.

Great hire by Dartmouth. Danielle Spencer is a great coach and person. Dartmouth all of a sudden becomes a prime destination again. The old coach was definitely a hindrance to recruiting many great players recently to Hanover (despite what some of the former players have said).

Like SS as a person and a coach but too many obstacles for Hofstra to teach their potential and in the end a bad hire by Hofstra. Here are a few. 1) Seemed like a nice idea to bring in the local girl but in the end a big name from Maryland or Jersey would have been better in that it would possibly have drawn some from their region 2) YJ still the biggest club with the most top players . Those players do not want to play for her so from the small pool on Long Island she is recruiting from the shallow end . Schools like MD etc are recruiting from the ocean. 3)Stony Brook , for those who want to stay near home or have come home SB price tag is better , education is better , lacrosse team is better , putting more into building athletic teams and facilities.

But she is burning bridges as she goes and eventually her playing reputation will only go so far. Eventually she will have to have some success at Hofstra with her own girls. The woman's pro team is also a joke if you are comparing it to other sports, no real secret to coaching the team. Just show up at the game which is also at the site of your TG tourn (most of the time). The girls get paid nothing and take a net loss when it is all said and done.

I don't think she's laughing all the way to the bank, but like all of us, she has bills to pay. As far as coaching the UWLX team, the games are held at the site of different tournaments, not necessarily TG tournaments. And, here's a novel concept about the UWLX...Maybe the girls are playing because they just love to play. Maybe, just maybe the money part is secondary to them. And yes, it probably is easy coaching them.

And that's what wrong with the sport. Club rules everything including US Lax. You are right TG and YJ and... are printing money to place most girls at mediocre academic institutions with so so lacrosse. The handful born with ability would do just fine without club lacrosse. The bottom 95% are being taken for a ride. Plus there is way more security from parents willing to pay then a college that might grow tired of the losses

She doesn't run the Wildcat Elite program for monetary reasons. She has been probably the single most influential person in spreading the women's lacrosse game west from the east coast and continues to influence the growth of the game. Some people aren't all about the money, and Wildcat Elite is much more about spreading the love of the game, than making money. Sorry, just had to point out that there are passionate, well-intentioned people out there as well. I'm not saying she isn't hyper-competitive, she is, but it isn't always, or even often, about the money to some people.

As far as Shannon Smith and Hofstra goes winning at an average academic private college with the way the NCAA restrictions are is next to impossible. You are only able to give out 12 scholarships which means you have to convince players and families to fork out a good chunk of money to come play at your school. The Ivys(or that level of school) and state schools have huge advantage.

Is that to max out the money machine? And since when is it a bad thing for someone to take their passion and talent and make a living from it when you have a lot to offer in that area? Camps/Clinics/videos all seem like fine things to do. I personally have had a daughter attend some of those camps and clinics and she has loved them and learned a lot. Isn't that how it is supposed to be? The problem w your post is that the facts surrounding the club team/program run by Amonte doesn't fit your assertion that they r "taking club money machine to the next level". Try again.

This fully funded program is a great topic. I think people would be shocked at how many D1 and D2 lacrosse programs use the full allotment allowed by the NCAA.
My daughter is a mid/lower D1 player and either coaches are lying or most are saying they don't have the scholarship spots we all think they have

Others are jumping onto the bandwagon - Amonte has "WildCats Elite" out of Chicago and Gait just stared his own club in the Syracuse area - follow the money
I think "jumping on the bandwagon" when referring to Amonte-Hiller is misplaced. First of all, she has had Wildcat Elite for a long time. Secondly, it is very small. I think it may only be 1 or 2 age groups. She makes plenty of money thru coaching, camps and endorsements.
Are you serious? It's always about the money - camps, clinincs, videos, tournaments, all being done in variety of states all year round by Amonte and company. When amonte and gait see carol rose generating over a million dollars in revenues every year with YJ and the Smiths close behind with TG every year, add in M&D, T3, Steps, etc. and it's too much money for them to leave on the table. Not to mention I'm sure that they think they can do it better and have the name recognition to take the club money machine to another level. I think that altruism is at the bottom of the list, if it's on it at all
Then Mr/Mrs know-it-all, why has Wildcat Elite been around for many years and it has a grand total of 1 team? Is that to max out the money machine? And since when is it a bad thing for someone to take their passion and talent and make a living from it when you have a lot to offer in that area? Camps/Clinics/videos all seem like fine things to do. I personally have had a daughter attend some of those camps and clinics and she has loved them and learned a lot. Isn't that how it is supposed to be?
The problem w your post is that the facts surrounding the club team/program run by Amonte doesn't fit your assertion that they r "taking club money machine to the next level". Try again.
Will this be another year of the Northworstern saga? Are you a family member or something?

I think Hofstra is a fully funded program but I can't find the data to back it up. Where did you find the data? Can you please post the link? My daughter plays in her travel program and I heard it straight from her father at one of the first tournaments we did there. Being that my daughter had no interest in going to Hofstra and they had no interest in her coming there, we stopped doing them shortly there after. Sorry, but hearsay is not reliable. An NCAA or Hofstra document is what is needed. Whatever you say.

I'm guessing this is the best thread to discuss my ongoing "study" of the Long Island 2013 class and, as a class, where they stand today in regards to their lacrosse careers. This is the third year I have posted this.
USA Lacrosse has found that roughly 50% of all recruited players are playing the game of lacrosse by their senior year. Long Island players in 2013 were at 58% with 43% playing significant minutes in a game. The remaining 15% played some minutes in a limited role.
There was a huge movement of players who no longer play from sophomore to junior year, which is expected. Playing time, school work and possible injury without a red shirt figures into this number, which is 28%. It was 8% last year.
The remaining 14% were redshirt or injury reflected by little or no playing time.
These numbers will adjust downward by next year if trends continue. The overall number should still be greater than the 50% average, but that is also expected as Long Island has more quality players as compared with the lacrosse group as a whole nationwide.
Just a little food for thought for anyone going through the recruiting process in high school. There are so many non-lacrosse variables to think about and don't lose sight of that.
Just one more year of crunching numbers! Whew!
