Does anyone here know who will be coaching IGLOO?? Haggerty is the coach. This plan was put in motion 2 years ago when they got rid of DK. Selhorn was brought in to be a buffer for Haggerty - because AA knew everyone would leave if Haggerty was the head coach. As per Igloo, before last year's tryout they said Haggerty was not going to coach. Then low and behold, after everyone committed to the team, Haggerty was the assistant coach. Now, after 1 year with Selhorn, Haggerty is the head coach. The whole thing was a sham. They flat-out lied to everyone. IT is a crappy situation - but their master plan worked beautifully and the suckers are us. Buyer beware on that team - there is zero integrity - ZERO

You need a job! This is a critical year for the 6th graders. Parents should be very very Much aware that it's extremely important they land their kids with an organizations TOP team where he will play his fair share. Winning tournaments/tee-shirts is not what this about. In a year or two, College Coaches could care less about scores of games, what club you play for or the jersey you wear. They will sit on the sidelines and watch the Kids who are playing on the field. Find a team with stability with coaches who are committed to making your kids better. Those tryouts are where you should be.
Tryouts and what parents should be doing:
Ninety One - Bandits PROS: are the best but will always look to find the one or two players who have improved so much that they are better than existing kids. They will dominate again because of JS ability to coach winning team.
CONS: He will carry a small roster so he can run with his best Kids most of the game. You know in advance what you get with this team - if your good, you'll play, if not, you'll sit. Not many open spots to steal so crazy that parents would try.
OPINION: Avoid!
Badgers - PROS: probably the most athletic team with some depth. Fairly solid at each position. They should do well but other teams are clearly closing the gap. Alot of depth at midfield With 2 very good goalies.
CONS: team is self imploding. They had trouble this year moving to the next level of play even though they had the goods to do so. Parents control the coach's decisions which is a recipe for disaster. Alot of coaching "favors" on the team that hmders their ability to play the right kids. Still very unstable situation that sill take Another disappointing year to fix.
OPINION:Avoid!
Igloo: PROS: 1st team to beat the Bandits. Great accomlishment. Solid team Made up of a bunch of hand picked Manhassett 32 players from Daddy coaches. They proved this past year that they can compete and will again this year.
CONS: turmoil with coaching. Head coach leaves after providing a solid Season. 2nd time AA has made that change at the top which doesn't allow the team to get settled. Will they change it up every year?? I would caution going to this team this year because of the uncertaintybof too many variables.
OPINION: Go check out tryouts
Out-laws: PROS: MB is doing a great job rebuilding this organization and team. New coach with a winning experience and record. Some good players. They will find ways to have goodntournament showings.
CONS: you nust never know what you will get with this team mostly because Of the constant changes at the helm. Rebuilding year. Will have mostly disappointing runs at the better clubs.
OPINION: checkout tryous
Legacy: PROS: up and coming organozation and team. Recently won world series which showed alot of naysayers that they are for real. Very solid group of core kids with some obvious holes. Consistent head coaching and new coach coming in with a winning record should provide an immediate lift to the next level. Tremendous opportunity for kids who want and should be playing in the first 10 spots.
CONS: depth at various positions. Need to show they can compete.
OPINION: Go to Tryouts
S2S PROS: DK has done a great job with what he has to deal with. Had an impressive year with some talented North Shore kids. They will be competitive again this year.
CONS: not 100% sure of their model. Mostly local Manhassett kids so the pool isn't their to continually feed the A team. Hand picked additions. No real tryouts. Not too sure that model can sustain itself very long. Not a place If you want exposure.
OPINION: Hand picked Wow.... Thanks Mr. Free Time. So all kids on LI should tryout for those 3 teams and avoid the rest??? Spoken like someone that spends way too much time reading these boards and not enough time watching what's going on out on the field. Thanks for the advice, but I'll make my own decisions. I think the OP assessment was pretty accurate especially about the team that held tryouts at Farmingdale last night. My son decided to accompany a friend last minute as we had no plans on trying out for this team. Things were pretty standard for tryouts until they pulled everyone off the field and split Bandit/Warrior players into two teams that will scrimmage everyone else. Now there must have been at least 12 coaches in that age group but 11 of them stayed on one side of the field the entire time and per my son told the loan coach on the other side of the field to let them know if anyone stood out. I don't know what hand picking the few you want is called but I would assume that's what it looks like to me. That's silly. They split for scrimmages, all teams were completely mixed. Just happened to be that 1/2 the kids there were Bandits/Warriors. After that scrimmage they changed the teams to included kids that they were interested in getting better looks at. Next week they will further scrutinize the 20 or so non-warrior/bandit kids and narrow the lot down to the 10 they are looking for. It's a tryout? How else would you figure out who to take unless they play against high quality kids? Ok parent/coach. The original assessment was unless you're invited it's difficult and you should not waste your time. What happened yesterday proves exactly that. Even if they narrowed it down like you said don't have 1 coach looking at two teams and handling subs for both teams while 12 coaches look at the other field. If it's getting a better look as you say then send the other kids home because you're not giving them a fair assessment, which proves the OP point. I know it's hot out there man just relax it will be ok. Jr will make the team again and all will ok in your world.

True Blue a money grab? Lol. They are one of the least expensive teams out there! And the kids they added were from numerous towns including Massapequa. They are only taking 21 this year. Learned their lesson from last year. Sounds like a Massapequa dad is worried about his kids spot!!! And yes the assistant coach is a daddy coach who won a state championship with his Varsity HS team. Look around and tell me what most of these other coaches have won? True Blue is Great Coaching that is reasonably priced. Sorry Haters!!!

How many times can you write the same thing? I think you have made your point. What is your obsession with the coach? Just move on. I have a son who was on that team. The program is well run, the coaches did a nice job and my son improved.. The indoor training was especially good.

As per US Lacrosse the cutoff for 2023 is September 1,2004. If you are born before this date and are playing in 2023 then you are CHEATING!!!! Reasons don't matter age does. Go try out for 2022 where you now belong!

Parents and players alike are sad to see Coach Selhorn go. Although I don't agree with AA's decision regarding Paul, there is no need to bash Coach Haggerty. Every one of our kids became better players thanks to the work of all 3: Paul, Sean, and Joe. If its such a crappy situation, please feel free to bypass tryouts this year. Take your drama elsewhere! Our kids will continue to grow and get better. Feel free to go back to DK and STS.
BTW Buyer beware... As a parent of a current player, Igloo went above and beyond what I expected of them this year!

Tenacious Turtles did it........sustained themselves as a top team that was hand selected. As for the ridiculousness and delusions of people on this page, RELAX. The bashing and bitterness are unhealthy. If your son had a negative experience, MOVE ON....there is always another team or coach who will connect with him. It's not about you....its about the player. Be educated enough to provide the resources for your young player to thrive, develop and improve and have fun. But do it with integrity and accountability.

Heard Outlaws select has a few spots available. Think with MB coaching they will build a solid team. Sounds like a great opportunity Yes great opportunity. They finished ten out of fifteen teams in their only competitive tournament With MB as the offensive coach. Heading in the right direction. Go spaghetti.

If you take out the grammatical error, notice the w in with is capitalized so that should have been a new sentence. The next sentence should have been a comma. If typed correctly it would have read "With MB as the offensive coach, heading in the right direction". Sorry I am a bad Typer and writer.

At the tryout, there were kids that were invited. The coaches knew their names and kept those kids on the field the entire time. For top teams, you are wasting your time if you weren't invite to the tryout. You could see players from other top 2023 teams getting all the attention.

So are they losing players to attrition or will they be replacing kids?4

Tryouts that I was referencing relate to Team 91. The only kids that have a shot are those that were invited to attend. Clearly JS knew who was in attendance and spent time watching those kids. Quickly the main group of top players was separated from the other kids and the coaches were all watching that group.

hOW DO YOU GET "INVITED" IF YOUR NOT ALREADY ON ONE OF THESE TOP TEAMS. The Coaches SCOUT other kids on other teams during the season. They make a note of local kids that play extremely strong against their team. Coaches also have certain team Daddies that do the same. These Daddies are marking certain players for removal from the team. These Daddies are usually some of the top players Daddies that threaten to leave the team if the Coach doesn't upgrade certain positions. They go out and look for the replacements. Once they have the list of kids they want, they call the parents and "invite" them down to the tryout, sometimes for free. Some are offered spots before the tryout even happens. With that said, if your son is "trying out" in hopes of making a top team, with no prior communication with the team, the chances of making that team are infinitely small. By the time tryouts role around most top teams are already set. With the exception of maybe a spot or two. The reality is, your basically trying out for a clubs second team, if that club's top team is one of the best in the grade.

Pretty embarrassing . Then by 8th grade their own kid is having his spot taken by a new kid. Funny to watch them squirm !!!

With that said, if your son is "trying out" in hopes of making a top team, with no prior communication with the team, the chances of making that team are infinitely small. By the time tryouts role around most top teams are already set. With the exception of maybe a spot or two. The reality is, your basically trying out for a clubs second team, if that club's top team is one of the best in the grade. you are spot on but forgot that those Daddies are usually up the coaches [lacrosse] and never help recruit a kid who is the same position as their son. Pretty embarrassing . Then by 8th grade their own kid is having his spot taken by a new kid. Funny to watch them squirm !!! The smartest coaches have a daddy at each position. You get to watch them pick off the other daddies kids. It's very Machiavellian.

hOW DO YOU GET "INVITED" IF YOUR NOT ALREADY ON ONE OF THESE TOP TEAMS. The Coaches SCOUT other kids on other teams during the season. They make a note of local kids that play extremely strong against their team. Coaches also have certain team Daddies that do the same. These Daddies are marking certain players for removal from the team. S2S is more than just Manhasset. Kids from Bethpage, RVC, NYC. It is proving to be an opportunity to poach kids from poor coaching at other programs and the normal over rostering at Express. As good as they are, and they are very good, there is no future in that team. They won't be invited to recruiting events in a few years and the top kids will bolt to the teams that will offer them more exposure. It's a sad truth, especially since all of those parents already think their kids are going to be committed in 7th grade. That is complete BS. Express and NinetyOne are not the only clubs that get asked about players. If your kid is good; coaches/colleges will find him no matter where he is playing. But, if you are in the middle of a stacked team, don't stay Go find a team where you will start and be on thr field more often. I never heard of a college coach asking about the kid on the bench. You have to be playing. It's just the way it is. Believe me, or don't believe me, it doesn't matter. The quality players gravitate to the teams that will get them the most exposure. S2S will never be able to do that if they are only developing a single team. Clubs get invited to showcases, not teams. Especially when they are run by the NLF right!?! S2S played in the Nlf tourney this summer Last minute substitute because a Md team bailed. Didn't get invited to the end of summer championship.
