Anyone care to rank the top area club teams for 2018?

Madlax, VLC then BW?

Well if your son is not on any of these 3 he should be attending all threes tryouts now. Or in BW case you should be emailing them begging for a spot. No reason to say who is better, Tryout for all three and go with the one your son can start or play a lot with. You are late to the game if you are not already on one of these 3 teams. Hope this helps.

Not even close--Madlax won 2 summer tournaments, beating such teams as Crabs, Laxachettes, LI Express etc....

Yes if we where to rank them Madlax would be one. But my point was at the 2018 age they are really not looking at the team record at all. You need to be on the D1 radar and talking to the coaches. Heck you should be talking to the D2 and D3 coaches by this age this timeline. They will be coming to see you play so if you win or lose the game it does not matter.

Madlax 2018 college commits looks strong. VLC not so much at this time. Who knows about BW, but the fact that they aren't advertising numbers problably says all you need to know.

Are you that photographer guy or something? I counted 12 guys for Madlax. I think VLC has something like 8 and BW probably has 10 or more.

All three are good options. No need to diss other people to make yourself feel good.

Can anyone guess how many times any of these BW kids played in a real game wearing the BW uniform. I would say 9 times is the highest number and most around 6. How can any org take credit for a player who plays in a real game for the team 9 times ever?

Madlax has 12 commits. VLC has half as much right now. Numbers may jump in November, but it's pretty clear that by this metric, Madlax wins hands down.

Well, if you're going by commits (not the right metric to use, but everyone seems to think it is), it's not Madlax - it's Sweetlax, hands-down. Crabs has several more than Madlax as well.

I don't think of Sweetlax as a team. It is at any age just an all-star squad of players developed elsewhere. West Coast Stars are similar.

IMHO, A team practices together, and stays together over a number of years...

Agree - BW would be on top. If you cast out Sweetlax, you should cast out all of the regional teams that use partner programs and such, including Madlax. If you're looking at teams that picks and fields one consistent team per grade, Madlax goes out the window too. You're left with BW, VLC, Crabs, etc.

BW's "18" number (if that is really accurate) is very misleading. They have guys who show up one day of a tournament, play a few games, and never come back. They may have committed before or after that event - nobody knows. The people most in the dark are the guys on that team. Since they are not allowed to have a tent, they simply roam around and toe the party line that it doesn't matter who their teammates are. Weird culture.

They should! Two years ago the 2018 Crabs, FCA and Team 91 played each other at Hopkins in front of a lot of coaches. At this point most of the good players have already committed but I am sure there are plenty of 2nd tier players still looking to be recruited! Don't be scared!

Well if all three really had the players true best interest at heart they would. The tournament would need to have tons of college scouts and who would make money off it? All three or no one?

It is not as easy as you think. You have to schedule during the recruiting windows where coaches can evaluate talent off campus. If coaches aren't already in the area for a big event, you risk just getting coaches from the DMV area only.

At this point, an event for three 2018 teams only is really only going to attract D3 coaches (even though all three teams are excellent). This kind of playday is only going to work for rising 8th grader and freshman teams (which is ridiculous, but where we currently are).

haha..this should be one of those tournaments where all 3 teams pitch in towards refs and field space - no big promotion or fanfare, just an opportunity for three of the areas top teams to play one another for bragging rights:)

Maybe most of the hold backs or early puberty kids were recruited 2 years ago. Not sure they are still the "top tier" kids. Our team played sweet lax, leading edge, madlax etc.. this summer and a lot of other teams annd kids you would consider second tier, and there were plenty of players not commuted that were just as good or better than all the early commits listed in ty zanders top 100. there will be a lot of parity in college lax in the coming years!

Dude, the #1 gripe among current and former BW families is how weird the culture there is. It's almost like they go out of their way to promote "look out for #1". Weird how a kid shows up to a tournament and sees 10 new teammates who may or may not be there next week.

Can you confirm this in anyway? If not please do not bash the one and only site to get information about high school lacrosse talent. Football and Basketball have several sites that do the same thing. These sites are good for the sport like it or not. People like lists and write ups. And how come his write ups and list tend to mirror the commit list. Is he talking to the colleges and writing about who they tell him to? Or are the college reading his list/write ups and picking those kids? But his write ups and list are pretty darn close to who the colleges are picking. Please explain how this is sir?

If you are not in close contact with several college coaches you should never go to BW. They have great players but they are true definition of Cherry Picking. They are prefect for the kid from a top high school and who will be recruited no matter where they play club.

He has literally taken $200-$500 cash on arrival to 'cover' prep school games. The write ups tend to involve a flattering review of kids whose parents seed the pots. Yes, there's a going rate for the exposure.

We played madlax this summer and lost by a goal. In my opinion they were not the best team we played. We beat Patriot by a goal and lost to leading edge by a goal and I would say they were both better, Patriot being the best.

And you can get recruited playing for Madlax as long as you pay the Recruiting Service fee. That is the only club I've ever heard of that charges a monthly fee to talk to coaches on your son's behalf.

I have to come on here once a month and talk about this darn monthly fee Madlax charges its not a recruiting service charge its what pays all the coaches salary's. They offer a recruiting service to kids that do not play with the club mostly kids from out of the Madlax area. I would guess there has been 10 kids in the history of this to ever use it/ pay for it. The Madlax players do not pay to have the Madlax coaches help them with recruiting. They will answer any question at anytime about your son and what they think he should do. You just need to call or email one of them. No coaches baby your kid in the process its up to the kid/parents to be proactive with it. If a college coach calls Madlax they will tell them the truth even if your dues are late.

My son played for Madlax (he's at a D1 school now). When we asked about recruiting help, we were absolutely told to join the Madlax Recruiting Service, which was a monthly fee that included junk like a "sit down discussion" and a certain number of calls a month. Again, we played for Madlax. It absolutely was pushed onto us and we said forget it.

LOL, guys, most of the top D1 programs are full or are finalizing their rosters. If they haven't contacted your son yet. he's not on their list. Move on, enjoy the D2 or D3 recruiting process. Use lacrosse to get into the best academic school you can (that's a good fit). Unless your kid is one of the driven few, tell them to enjoy the last two years of club and high school lacrosse. The sport is glorified club at the pro level and is a non-revenue sport collegiately. Translation: its a fun sport but not an avenue to make a living. Play for a club that fits you. If you really want to work on your craft, play box in Canada all summer or see if you can sneak onto a college team for summer ball. Trust me when I tell you that the lacrosse training in box or the speepd of the collegiate game will prepare you much better for the next level than some overpriced, overhyped club recruiting circuit. If parents want to spend money, split the cost of working with a great position coach with another like minded player and get really good.

Tell me again how the Madlax owner is the worst thing to ever happen to Lacrosse in the DMV. Trig and his club are what is wrong with club lacrosse. I would have more respect for them if he and his club where more translucent. BW has never made a kid into a D1 player. D1 players wear a BW uniform 3 or 4 times and Trig and his people take credit.

It happened once. VLC 2018 played BW 2018 at the UMD fall event last year. VLC won by 3 but both were missing guys. Would be fun to see all 3 full squads play each other.

Name another club that charges to help its players get recruited. Seriously - a college recruiting service that is a separate fee.

Nobody else does this.

Ok they also sell sticks, gloves, and helmets. Name another club that does this. It is not a required thing. And I can promise you 10000% that they will call, email and answer the phone for your son if he plays for Madlax without the Fee. My son is not a D1 sure thing stud and they help me and answer all my emails. I do not pay for this fee. You can find issues with Madlax but this is not a issue.

Madlax lost some 2020 kids to BW as pointed out on this site several times. How did the Madlax owner handle that? He has learn from his mistake. Also the two guys below him really handle 90% of things now. And in my opinion they do a really good job. They answer all my questions and work with you if you need help. And I have to point this out again you only see the from emails in this story. They leave out all the emails, phone calls , and conversations from the crazy azz day in this case.

I'm not in this conversation, but I'll bite.

1. What exactly has the Madlax owner learned from his "mistake" and what has he done to stem the defections from this 2020 team (and how exactly would you know this)? I'm aware that he has been hurt badly by Express and Next Level in the youth levels, so do you know know how he is going to deal with future losses?

2. Even the family left the worst emails/voice mails in the world, nothing can justify his response? If you are a service business and your customer leaves, do you threaten them for daring to chose a different vendor? He takked about the kid getting hurt by his former teammates, and ruining his reputation at his school and future college.

How can you or anyone defend that? Seriously.

He learned by not repeating those actions with this knew group of kids that left 2020. And aren't we all glad that our worst fight was not recorded and replayed in a public forum. So if you have never lost your temper and said things you did not mean you can kill him for it. But I have lost my temper and said and even done things I would not do again. So I choose to forgive him for it. I have talked to the father who was on the other side of those emails. I am impressed he did not just punch the guy, He is a man that needs a good punch in the face.

Do you get paid for every Madlax apology you post here?

I am not worried about this happening to me because if one of my clients wants to go elsewhere, I wish that person luck and hope to win his business next time.

I don't threaten people who do something contrary to my business' interests. Because I am an adult.

Do you get paid every time you bring up something from 5 years ago. You feel the need to post about something so old and I feel the need to reply to your clear bashing of a club that cut your son or took your sons teams best player.

Yes. Anyone with a differing opinion of you about Madlax must have had a son cut by Madlax, or Madlax must have taken our team's best player.

You sound like a Trump apologist.

Then please explain to me why you keep going out of your way to bring up the email from 5 years ago? I do not go out of my way to tell everyone the Madlax owner is until you and your people start bashing him and the club. I would rather talk about what showcase to attend and what tournaments are the best? Or what prospect camp is worth doing and when should you do them.

Funny reading through the recent 2018 top 50s. Wondering if the author actually watches in season game film like the football scounting services do. There are kids on these lists that are deep on the bench (don't touch the field except in a mop up role or maybe get one or two runs per game) on their high school teams and I'm not talking about Barry Sanders behind Thurman Thomas.

Not the same guy, but from what I've seen, those people bring it up whenever you (yes you, because you are the only one here who consistently mangles the English language) tout Madlax, they are there to correct the record. I haven't seen people bring up the negatives about Madlax unless they are disputing something you wrote.

I, for one, appreciate the heads-up. After reading things here and seeing that email thread, it was an easy choice to stay far away from Madlax. Seems like more and more Montgomery County families feel the same way.

That is a good trick how you say not the same guy. Also I have seen people write like me to pretend they are me several times on this site. That is what you get with a Anonymous site. But if you want to play for sub par teams just so you avoid the scary Madlax owner feel free. You are only hurting your son.

We live in the DMV and my son plays for the Crabs, so we are doing fine. So are our friends who play for FCA, BW and VLC. They play in great events and get recruited just as well or even better than Madlax.

You can say those clubs are equal but not better. What can be done to convince the top talent from the 9 B level clubs to tryout for these top 3 clubs?

You are delusional. For those B clubs, there are maybe 2-3 kids who could make one of the clubs you mentioned (and most of them would be there for depth, not as an impact player).

Why do you say this over and over again? The only one who would possibly benefit would be Madlax because they are the only one who has B teams in order to make more money.

Seen a number of top college players (AAs) from MD not play for the top tier clubs. Lax World, Roughriders, Rock, Why did they play for these clubs? Friends, be a big fish in a medium pond, etc.

I agree the top 3 players from the B clubs can make and play for the top 3 teams in DMV and if they do play for Madlax second team it would be a better option for them. I have broken down the money for Madlax compared to these other B level teams in the DMV. And Madlax is more but the extra cost is so over blown. If you can afford 4k a year for travel lacrosse you can afford $5500. Because what the cost police always fail to account for is Madlax offers 30% more field/game time over a 12 month time frame. And the other big thing is are you really saving money and spending your time wisely when you spend 2 days at a Va Beach tournament playing crap teams with no coaches watching. But what I can tell you the hotels at all tournaments are the same price so who is really winning the total cost game?

Well I just think if you have the time to talk crap about the club I have the time to counter your B.S. You clearly try to point young parents away from Madlax with over blown fear tactics. You imply that Triq at BW or any of the VLC bosses/coaches are not over zealous about youth lacrosse. All three of the top Programs have crazy things and people involved.

I have several boys on top collegiate (D1 and D3) and high school teams. Most club coaches and owners are great guys who really have the kids interests at heart. Find a club coach and players who fit your family's personality. If your son is that good he will be "discovered", there will be a feeding frenzy and he'll commit to a good school. Its that simple. the film doesn't lie. Don't worry so much about kissing up to the club coach. Just make sure your kid is respectful, courteous and works hard and everything will work out. Don't even worry about college lacrosse, get paid (or get into a great school) if you can and enjoy college. There's little money in lacrosse: its a hobby.

NL's 2018 team is a 2018/2019 combo because they couldn't get enough kids to field either a 2018 or a 2019 team. Since this team was started just now from scratch, these are NL's existing 2019 kids plus 2018 kids who couldn't find a home until now.

Naptown championship game was sloppy. Poor play all around by both teams. Bad passing, bad catching, goalies not stopping anything, terrible clears, bad coaching. Quint said they were not used to playing at night but many of those kids high school games are at night. Fitting the game ended on a pass out of bounds.

I get it...you made a funny. See, the reality is that there were 3-4 pipes hit in first quarter, the defenses were very aggressive, the goalies made some door step saves, one team had the HS coach of the year and both teams had exceptionally matched talent. See, that is what you meant to say.

From the newspaper - "Elder grew up in Crofton and got to know many of his Hawks teammates through youth lacrosse in the area. He moved to Lake Norman, North Carolina, but wanted to continue playing with friends during the club season."

Still considered guest playing if you commit for the full summer?

The Hawks player you are trying to smear went to tryouts last summer and made the team. He played with them in the fall and throughout the summer. There was another player who played on the Hawks black team and has done so for 4 years, but played in some tournaments this summer with the Green team as well. He played with them last night. There were no "guest" players on Hawks.

Imagine playing for FCA, paying upwards of $2500 to play on the team and sitting on the sidelines so some guest players can com in and try to help win a championship for the coaches son????? That program is heading down a bad road. It is not about the kids, and it really isn't about making $. The whole program is there to support one family's desire to dominate the lacrosse landscape in the Baltimore area.

New to the thread but you sound like a classic lacrosse parent know it all, and well you are wrong. The fogo, and if you watched the game you'd know the announcers spend the first half calling the guest player by his older brothers name.

I doubt that you are new to the thread, i'm not a know it all nor did i imply that, I don't know all of the players for FCA and asked a simple question. I saw that there was no response for a few days and figured it was a typical anonymous, baseless accusation. I watched the game in person and didn't hear the announcers, but probably wouldn't have known the name anyway. I'm glad you stumbled onto this post and enlightened us all, as well as educating me. Classic [lacrosse] response. You blow hard about "crickets" "b/s" "back it up" "move on". Yeah, I'd say you think you are a know it all. There was a guest player, and he was brought in just for Naptown. I'll enlighten you with something else, I'm an FCA parent and actually have never read the 2018 thread before.

How about you "move on". Thank you.

1) "Classic [lacrosse] response", not very Christian of you
2) Still, not buying that you just stumbled onto this thread for the first time, especially if you are an FCA parent
3) If i was a know it all, then why would I have asked the question, wouldn't I have already known. I didn't know and was just looking for clarification, because I don't have a clue who plays for FCA
4) I'm guessing you are not only an FCA parent, but your son must have been the guy who got bumped for a guest player and they still couldn't beat the Hawks, I feel your pain and understand that is a tough way to cap off your FCA career
5) Thank you for your quick and critical response
