Who are top 6 7 and 8 grade teams? 6th 2022 Diamondbacks Cannons Hawks Madlax Crabs Team 91 MD (Breakers) FCA Bethesda No particular order - Any given day - any one could win. FCA lost 12-1 to Crabs and 10-2 to Team 91 MD a couple weeks ago. Not sure they belong on list. This list needs to be done at the end of spring ball and the end of summer tournament season. Fall is never a good way to find the best teams. Football players and other things stop the teams from being even. These teams change tournament by tournament throughout the year so any time is just as good as any other to evaluate. It's not like someone is out there verifying rosters and ages. Speak for your own team. My kids team is not doing that - changing tourney by tourney. And they are all 2022.

They beat Bethesda and Hawks, although Hawks only by 1. They were big and good. Hawks and Bethesda are both very good teams. They were the same team. FCA Blue. Both FCA's A & B teams were at MD Lacrosse Invitational. It was their B team that was blown out by Team 91 and Crabs - not the team that went to Severn. Wrong!!! Crabs played FCA Blue and won 12-1. Team 91 beat FCA blue 10-2. Team 91 also played FCA white. Crabs only played FCA blue. Nice try though

Can we have a polite consensus of where the 2020/8th grade teams stack up at this point based on the last couple of weeks of games? Easy for the DC area teams and the Hawks because they were at the Madlax tournament last weekend. Here is a shot (know nothing about where Bal teams fit in such as FCA, GT and Looneys):
1. Crabs 2. Next Level 3. 3d Mid-Atlantic 4. Madlax Capital 5. Hawks 6. VLC 7. Roughriders 8. Bethesda ?. Club Blue ?. Cannons FCA Blue, Looneys Orange, 91 Force all in same tier as Crabs Thunder, 91 Platnum, Looneys Green, FCA White would all be competitive with 6-10 on your list. Heard Koopers 2020 was improved Koopers, while having many talented players, would really really have to improve to be able to compete with the top 5 in Baltimore area. Last year Koopers struggled with Looney's Green, FCA White and Breakers White (now 91 Platnum). I think this reflects reality through the fall so far: 1. Crabs 2. Hawks 3. Next Level 4. Madlax Capital 4. 3d Mid-Atlantic 6. VLC 7. Roughriders 8. Bethesda ?. Club Blue ?. Cannons Based on what? 3-10 are not even in the same class as Looneys Orange, FCA Blue or 91 Force who you left off the list. These clubs second tier A/AA teams could beat most of the teams on this list.

For 2021 you have to add Koopers. They beat Crabs pretty easily the past few years

2021 Hawks looked good this weekend although Bitmore was beating them at half and then was man down for over 8 minutes in 2nd half which ultimately cost them.

VLC 2020 smoked the rough riders....not even close. I'd say they're on par with madlax capital 2020....middle of the road AA. We are guessing you VLC 2020 parents understand that you are a B team after yesterday?

The Madlax 2018 team has fallen apart. Several weak, uninspiring performances this fall. They have been consistently right below Crabs and other top 2018 teams, but it seems like they stopped playing after their top 4-5 guys committed.

They have been consistently right below Crabs and other top 2018 teams, but it seems like they stopped playing after their top 4-5 guys committed. This is the same pattern from the "top 2017" DMV teams and players. A good number of the top players and teams from 8th grade or 9th grade have fallen off, not performing and lack a real competitive passion. Not just a Madlax thing. When these kids get set up to believe the only thing that counts and is the ultimate credential is committing to a college very young, they buy in to that and this happens a lot.

Also you have to remember that most of Madlax top players go to top Private schools. And these top private schools are playing more and more fall and summer tournaments. And I think the parents of the kids who have not picked a college like when the top guys are not there. More time for their kid to be seen. Madlax plays a full schedule every summer and fall. Which is great if you are still looking for a school. But when a school picks you its better to play less and practice more. There is not a easy answer or plan.

You are right about exactly the way club lacrosse works. Kind of sad but they are just college promotion concierge services now. I miss the days when the more important thing was competing to do something distinguished and win, not to get noticed. This is also the reason why prep lacrosse at the local top schools is degrading...the prep coaches are stuck taking a lot of time to unwind the club "individual showcase skill set" that is wired into these kids. Pretty soon it will be why bother to even play in college when you get there? The only greatest thing is this commit status game, and after that the passion for competition goes down. Just doing wall ball and cardio every day does nothing to nurture or develop mental toughness and competitive grit. It is no small wonder so many highly regarded early teens don't develop in high school and then never see the field in college.

Well as we all can agree on if the FOGO is winning 100% of the faceoffs its hard to make it a game if the rest of the team are even close in skill.

I don't think any less of a kid or a parent who uses lacrosse to get into a school they would otherwise not get into. But rationally speaking, look at the 30 or so not so selective colleges out there for D1 lacrosse and consider what kind of student your son would be to need lacrosse to get him in. Several of them are colleges that accept 65%-85% of the applicant pool. That means if you are a qualified student and can pay, you're in. Getting all excited about being committed for lacrosse is just a lacrosse ambition. Then you have to go to school and be happy there too.

I just look at this whole thing as a way to keep my kid focused and out of trouble. Teenage boys need a road map to move through life. Us adults know that the lacrosse road really does not have big pay off at the end. But we also know that this road will get them past all the bad exit ramps on the way through high school. If my son misses the party where he gets a girl pregnant because he had to leave early for a lacrosse tournament I count that as a parenting win.

You need to continue playing at the highest level.

He will and can miss a couple Madlax tournaments. Which is why to got back the older Madlax teams fall off a little. The Hot bed teams are cutting D1 kids early on so they can bring them on late in the game and not miss a beat. NOVA is not that deep so when the firt line of D1 kids slow down due to early recruiting the fill ins are not as good.

Why would anyone have their son play for that lunatic Madlax owner? So you want to go back to this really. For the 100000 time he is all bark and no bite. He is crazy yes we all know but he is fine do not let deadspin rule your world. Go fight the holdback and reclass fight that is a real problem not the Madlax owner. He has been exposed we all know he is a little crazy. But the teams and other coaches are good to great and no team in NOVA plays more at all the good to great tournaments.

Any thoughts on the tournament at Landon this Sunday? Should be high quality lacrosse, especially now that football season is over and most teams will be at close to full strength:
Calverton Hill Academy #1 Hill Academy #2 Georgetown Prep Gonzaga Bullis Paul VI Severn Severna Park Churchill Landon School Madlax Nationals East Coast Showcase Team #1 East Coast Showcase Team #2 East Coast Showcase Team #3 East Coast Showcase Team #4

Lax power had Landon, Gonzaga and Prep in the top 10, and the Hill Academy was a top 20 program no one wanted to play. The rest of the field is also strong. Great tourney, also the NHSLS the day before should be even better.

Are you really trying to argue against that? Last I checked the MIAA was a better conference than the IAC.

I agree, but someone balked at the idea that Saturday at BL and RPCS was not a better collection of teams than Sunday at Landon. I'd put BL, McDonogh, St. Pauls, Calvert Hall, Gilman and MSJ above the collection of DC teams.

If I am located somewhere halfway between the two venues, like Columbia, MD, I would rather drive south to see 3 top ten teams at Landon.....
