AAU Basketball just changed their eligibility to restrict birthdays and many kids found out their old team did not want them. They put in some grade based grandfathering for older kids, but not younger (U-14 or less).
(Example: 15U/9th Grade: An athlete can be no older than 15 on August 31, 2015. Grade Exception: An athlete who is in the 9th grade as of Oct 1, 2014 and who is no older than 16 on August 31, 2015 is eligible to play in the 15U/9th grade division)
It is too late for the 2020 to be affected by a stricter rule change, but there is hope for my 2025. Hopefully, lacrosse can get their act together. Crabs will figure some way to cheat the system. I am totally against the holding back of kids for an athletic advantage. Think it's terrible. But why single out the Crabs? Every team has them. One team who didn’t do so well last weekend at Hill even has a kid that just decided to play down without even reclassing. It's sad that people would go to these lengths to try to make their kid look better temporarily. Crabs manipulate the system the most. Look what they did at Beach Lax this past summer. Most teams probably have a couple, but their entire starting lineup is holdbacks. The entire starting lineup is holdback? Nice bold-faced lie, dad. Look, we all saw on NATIONAL TV what happened when the Crabs played 91 Crush with age appropriate kids verified via birth certificate, the game was over at halftime, be real! Didn't they manipulate the cut-off date for this event to make some kids eligible to play?

Do any of the Crush 2020 folks know where you are playing this Autumn. We (Edge Ontario) are in the process of planning our upcoming season and have made some upgrades to our team and were hoping to face your team. There's no better way to assess talent other than playing the best. We were looking at the NYPLL on November 15th. We haven't played you since Nov 2011 and look forward to the opportunity. Good luck to all teams with their tryouts and upcoming season. Are your upgrades in the form if holdbacks? Would you be willing to play in age based tournaments? You mean like the whole team held back... Hey Edge, try playing some 2019 LI teams, they will most likely be younger than your new "upgraded" older team.

We have a team born in 2001 and 2000 we don't hide behind this by claiming to have reclassified every tournament director fully understands this so what's the problem. The 2000 team played last week at the NBF event in Baltimore and the 2001 team played 2019 last week in Richmond. I believe the 2000 team are playing this weekend at Towson and Nov 21/22 at Philly Freshman. The 2001 team are at Adrenaline Nov 14th and Autumn Classic Nov15th. Let's face it friend everyone is cheating at least we don't hide the ages of our kids all there to see. Played Team Carolina 2019 last week and they were all 2000,s and late 99's. LI is just better we get it. Still go to our website our entire 2016 team is playing NCAA starting next Fall.

Mad lax 2020 has nothing the other MD teams are jealous about. They are probably 7th or 8th at best in the Northern VA / MD area.
Crabs on the other hand are much better, probably #2 in the area, however they abuse the weak lax rules and ruin the integrity of youth lax.

If the sytem was like hockey 2001 play agst 2001 it would work a lot better how does youth hockey work when kids are in 8th grade? Most states aren't calendar year. So if school cutoff is 9/1 do they still split up the 2001s and 2002s in 8th grade? Do the 2001s just play in a smaller league because many 2001 are (or should be) in HS

School in Canada is based on Year of Birth..so every child born in 2001 is in grade 9. Jan 1-dec31. And kids are not held back for any reason. You do get older kids sometimes repeat grade 12 (nicknamed a victory lap) to improve their averages for University admission.

Youth hockey has really worked it out. Within each age division, Jan 1 cutoff, there are:
House - new player, and players who might no be good but love the game B Team - Travel lowest level Lower A - Travel next level A - Travel with mostly or all minor age of the division Upper A - Travel with a mix of minor and major ages of the division AA - Travel with a majority or all of majors of the age division AAA - Tier 1 hockey ( lots of plane rides)
Bottom line is it is all age based and strictly enforced, especially by the tournaments who will reclass teams to other tourney divisions based on records and mix of ages on the team.

Grade had zero to do with it. it would only work in Lax hotbeds, not enough players to fill teams in many areas. School year is the best or a date close to it and strictly enforced. Problem is, US Lax has no backbone and is afraid of its own shadow, they won't enforce anything.
