Thanks for the link, CageSage.
With the unbalanced schedules in Section XI, the Power Points System attempts to capture the difference between Team A that is forced to play the top team in a conference from Team B that plays the bottom placed team yet wind up with the same record overall.

Why do they divide the teams up in those large divisions? Instead of, say, how they divide up the soccer teams?

For some reason, the smaller brackets used by soccer have never caught on within Section XI's football and lacrosse camps. Perhaps it is that the structure has been around for less time or perhaps there is flexibility in being able to change opponents each season.

Section XI Division II (Class C) brackets have been released.

The semi-final match will pit Elwood-John Glenn (3) against Bayport-Blue Point (2). The winner will face Mount Sinai (1) in the Championship on Thursday, June 2nd.

Key in this bracket is that Mount Sinai will not have a game on the scoresheet for the next two full weeks. Will they be game sharp to face that BBP lineup?

Its amazing that you can have a losing record and still be in a playoffs and in the semi finals no less. It is further amazing to me that in the "C Class" division you can automatically get in the championship without playing one playoff game. Look how hard it is in the "Class A" bracket.

How does John Glenn get in over Miller Place when Miller Place has more "points"???

Miller Place was Class B, not Class C according to our listings.

You are right. This is why shoreham-wading river got into the finals every year. You will notice that they could be out in first round. Watch them go back into class c next year

Wednesday, May 18th Results

The weather washed away most of the games from the opening round of the Class A and Class C Section VIII action today. The only game that went off despite the weather was the Farmingdale (1) vs. MacArthur (8) match in Class A.

Farmingdale crushed MacArthur, 23-4

With the win, the Dalers will next face the winner of the Baldwin (4)/Syosset (5) match on Thursday, May 26th.

Among the privates in IPSAL,

Long Island Lutheran over Portledge, 11-10, Overtime

You can put more teams in the C playoffs but it isn't going to change who wins the C championship. There is a reason they are class C schools. They have LESS girls to choose from!! It is not like these teams are ducking the competition during the year. Both Bayport and Mt Sinai played most of the top "B" schools and did very well! Instead of degrading the accomplishment of winning their bracket, you should be applauding the fact they are very competitive with some schools that have 50-100% more girls in the district. The girls from these schools work just as hard or harder to compete as any of the schools. They don't make the brackets, you shouldn't try to minimize their accomplishments(past or future).

Glenn would not have a losing record if they only played class C schools!

They are (Swr) going back to Class C and it has to do with the size of the school.

All-league, all-conference (or division if you're in Nassau, I guess), then all-county. All-state is next, but those awards are not chosen by the coaches but by the sportswriters.

SWR goalie played a stellar game and why are you so prejudiced against SWR? Not cool to put a team dowm time and time again makes you look small. I think giving credit where credit is due is appropriate and both teams played outstanding lacrosse today with all heart both SWR and Rocky Point. Both teams should be proud and commended on jobs well done!

Problem is both teams "put their eggs in one basket" with their seniors last year not letting team share the ball. When the "big dogs" leave the underclassmen (women?) are left holding the bag. Gotta share the ball.

Ok so some kids were ball hogs last year so that makes a whole team "bad" um ok?? Thats an interesting point of view? Aren't high school teams always changing?

Maybe the poster meant that since last year's seniors hogged the ball that this year's team isn't as well-prepared as they would have been if they'd been included last year.

Yes that is what I meant. But the coaches encourage this type of play too. Then when the seniors graduate they are like, oh crap.

I agree, and I see it across sports. Coaches need to develop the bench to secure future success. Witness SWR and RP this year.
