If you read Edges website for their 2020 team- they list them as the top kids from 2001 and 2002. They readily speak of reclassifying and needing to do so by 8/9th grade. I wouldn't doubt that most of their players are a full year older than many teams at the 2020 age.

2001/2002 is 2020.

One month in NY of 2001 and 4 months in most other states at 2001- not the entire 2001 year. That's why grade makes no sense- in Edge all of 2001 can be 2020. Their is no rhyme and reason to how old the kids can be anymore in grade year.

True, I was thinking second half of 2001. Jan 2001, unlike hockey, is not 2020.

Then they should honor the game and stop cheating. Guess that is the only way they can get an "edge" on their smarter, and more athletic big USA brother!

If I pulled all the 2001 birth years off my 2019 team and put them on our 2020 we would beat everyone handily. And even give Crush a competitive game.

shhhh....don't tell anyone that other teams have older kids (even though we know many do) That way we can exclusively reserve the cheater label for the Crabs and continue the fallacy that they are the only team with holdbacks. By the way every Crabs player is at least 2 years older.....pass it on

Perhaps, but did he play the whole season for the 2019 team, show up for one tournament with the 2020 team, and then go back to his 2019 team the next week? That's what the Crabs do.

Let's face it, from may 2001 on, MOST of those kids are 2020. It is VERY common for "summer" birthday boys to be "held" by their parents before they start K.

In your date- May is a late birthday- in NY that is not the case. Late starters are Oct and Nov 2001- which is still on grade for other states. Thus, once again pointing out why grad year is all over the place.

Common in the world of Privates for sure. Does happen in Public schools but nothing like in Private Prep schools were its the norm to hold your child back.

Great games and great teams Express, Legacy and Sons all played great. Looney's barely edged out Terps, played and beat a tough and competitive Legacy team (Legacy beat Sons) and Looney's gave 91 a run for their money but fell short, 91 is still the best 2020 team in the country. Fogo for Looney's was dominant against 91, goalie, defense, middies and attack were strong but at the end of the day Crush had the most complete and dominant team at the tourney.

You all can debate if it's cheating or not. But looneys does have hold back/older kids.

Crush is still #1 but Looney's are in the conversation to make into the top five. Express, Legacy, Crabs and Sons are all top teams. Looney's also won last week.

Sons not really a top five any longer. Not as dominant as once were and behind Crabs and possibly Hawks. They lost to Legacy Taz by 3 and beat Breakers by only 1. FoGO is not as dominant as Looneys and Crush's. Legacy clearly dominated the game and Sons would probably have lost to Breakers too but for a few questionable calls.

The fact is, there are plenty of really good teams at 2020. 91, Crabs, Loonies, Express, Legacy, Sons, Freedom, Laxchusetts, Breakers and I am probably missing some others. Totally pointless to argue who is best, plenty of great talent out there!! I personally love great competitve games. On any give day, a match up of any of the teams listed could go either way! Good luck to all the boys at this age group!

You might be right but if express kids don't start to grow and get tougher it won't be long. Tryouts are coming up we will see.

Calls were questionable throughout the tourney for everyone. Breakers freestyles it more than other top level teams. More single man play/shooting; less passing and playing as a team than Sons is why they lost.

Guess it pays to have FOGOs from out of state! If you watched the game, there was a big size differential between the Looneys and Crush. Crush is the more skilled team but they needed the ball to show it and the size and Looneys FOGO made the difference. Would be surprised if it is more than just a rumor that he will switch to FCA next year. No incentive if your team is already #2! Great game.

Unfortunately they still lost the game. Skill trumped size one again. Many holbacks on that team including the fogo, who was very good, dominating ALL the Long Island boys. Why does he feel the need to play down? He should be able to do great in his real age group.

Next year is when a lot of kids start to move so I wouldnt be surprised if starters from each team move to a different club. Next year Looneys FCA and Crabs will be the best teams in the area

It was about 11/17 not "nearly all" but kid was very good! Appeared to be older and more developed. Watched a few games he played in and he performed very well.
