I’m certainly not advocating out of control play, but a let the kids play a little defense .... time and time again I watched a team work the ball around a few times and make 1 attempt at a dodge and the defense get called for either pushing or cross check and the offense getting a free possession… This was two separate officiating crews btw.. certainly head scratching,

Agree. Too many times the offensive player runs herself into a double/triple team and the officials reward the bad offensive play by calling a foul. I think if you swing stick as a defender you are usually wrong and playing poor defense. But many defenders play good solid defense by moving thier feet and getting good position and refs continue to call fouls on the defense and bail out poor offensive decisions.

The worst is the lack of a charge call. How many players lower their shoulder and plow through a double triple team and the ref hangs the flag out because it looks like the defender is pushing.

The Huntington coach absolutely pulled up a bunch of 7th graders to JV who don't belong there. The conflict of interest is glaring. She skipped over a bunch of 8th grade girls who are great players and took her daughter and her daughter's friends. By the way, she also seems to take only Yellow Jacket players! Disgusting. She should be fired asap.

Anyone elses notice the Ref’s are really calling games tight in regard to defense.. I’ve watched 2 games so far this season and every contact a defender makes with their stick ( even if its straight up) is called a push/cross check and every stick check is called either a slash or across the body.. it almost impossible to play defense are you looking for the "grey" in the rule not the black and white. reaching across is a foul, and I didnt think they could make any (Body) contact with their stick 9/10 times it is a push that never gets called?

Worse than that is when a player can't plow through a double or triple team and shoots over the defender(s) heads. Blatant offensive foul. My daughter is not a defender but it still bugs the crap out of me that the refs are so tilted towards offense.

A few heavy defenders that can't move and a draw kid that is lanky but not so coordinated. Would not bet he house on that team

I misinterpreted the previous post regarding 10th graders being cut. Everyone who tried out was given a spot on a team whether varsity or JV. Bayport and Sayville will be tough for ESM with or without those 8th graders. In fact, the whole B and C classes are tough this year. There are no easy games.

Five 7th graders were brought up to JV at ESM three are Top Guns and two are Yellow Jackets. It's not always some huge conspiracy and club affiliation - sure, if you look for a reason you will find it.

The girls brought up are great players in there age group-same thing done last year - its starting to be a pattern at ESM-its a small school so not that unusual - the talent pool is not that large and bringing the younger kids up early gives them more practice and game time as opposed to MS lax which is a joke. By 9th and 10th grade there are only a handful of girls that still play -most get disgusted and quit because of politics and favortism

JV I think yes - if you have a talented player who plays all year round middle school can be very unchallenging Varsity is another matter -7th grade girls are usually not big enough to go against a junior senior girl and can get hurt - there are exceptions of course and what i have seen is the 7th grader playing only offense as a midfielder the problem is coaches and clubs and parents are pushing to put 5-6 year varsity starter on the resume are parents delusional? of course they are!

Many times it's the parents that seem to have the bigger issues and they project their own opinions on to their children. I know there are situations where kids seem to get a raw deal, but to say that many quit because of politics and disgust I think is a bit of an exaggeration. High school has so much to offer besides lacrosse. Some of my children's peers have left lacrosse for theatre, track, softball. Just because we as parents put a stick in their hand when they were kids doesn't mean they're going to stick with it. Missing family weddings, christenings, proms for lax games or a tryout is a whole other issue but I digress...

Think about that, some age groups have 30-40 or more kids playing. Now add the fact that by the time they get to HS they are drawing players from 7-12th grade. Maybe 5 or 6 players from each age group will be playing through varsity. Reduction of 30-40 kids to 5-6 leaves a bitter nasty pill to swallow. That's what we are seeing here on these threads. Cut throat environment, don't envy ESM.

lets start the awards, best sportsmanship goes to kings park. Worst sportsmanship goes to Huntington, that coach sounds like a horror story, in the blowout, let me guess you are already watching the scoring leaders.
Do not single out a player. It's weak of you. Don't know what the Hop edited (obviously) but me thinks the post sounds like Islip sour grapes? The funny thing (without being at the game) is that it looks like Huntington called the dogs off in the 2nd half only scoring 2 goals. If it is Islip sour grapes, take a look at last years results...Islip put up over 20 goals three times last year and they scored 19 twice with the O sisters padding their stats tremendously in those games. You also can't compare Islip and HB...HB is a new program and Islip was in the playoffs last year. Take your lose and move on...you are not the only playoff team from last year that took a beating today..take a look at the ESM game! What does the Kings Park team get for winning the sportsmanship award? They get the EI girl scoring 9 goals agaist them today. Oh and as for Islip, the girls whose initials we can't disclose had 7 goals AND 5,count em, 5 assists as they put up 18 vs a weaker program. Goals are goals, but 5 assists...sounds like padding the scoresheet!

Can anyone touch Mt Sinai? How will Northport be? Lets see, Bayport beat them last year. Bayport is likely stronger this year and Mt. Sinai is weaker from the graduating stand point. Do you not remember how last year ended? Could not agree more , how is it a team that looses its goalie and its best offensive player is favored over a team that beat them last time they played and has gotten better. BBP by 5. Final score today was Mt Sinai 14 BBP 7...so much for BBP by 5! In another big game, ESM beat Hauppauge 10-8 Both of these games could be playoff games in May.
