No one is arguing that but maybe the 8th grader deserves to be on varsity more then moms little 9th grader. Maybe the 8th grader is better, maybe she works harder, maybe she plays year round, maybe she is just more gifted athletically. It always seems when a child excels at something there are always the people who cannot stand that some kid is excelling faster then there own child. Maybe, maybe not. You can't discount the role politics plays in these moves though. My district has a new JV coach who brought her 7th grade daughter up to play with her. We could discuss that load of baloney all day and get nowhere.

Disagree this is a forum to do this.
What is good for one (by playing an 8th grader) is not good for the other (older player) who may derseve it more.
Be real, that is what this forum is used for to expose these things because you cant go to the schools/admins/coaches.
Blow it open here, Blaze the trail anonymously, so it doesnt happen in years to come. Bottom line is if a kid does not deserve to be on Varsity, she should not be on Varsity because you are hurting the kid who belongs there. How can anyone argue this? Easy, like this. Put an 8th grader on varsity and give her an edge in playing time over perhahps a more skilled and physical junior or senior. Does it make your team better on this particular day? Maybe not, but maybe the coach is concerned about making the team better three, four, five years down the road. Maybe they see something in the girl and want to spend the time developing her. Not everyone is completely concerned with winning the game in front of their nose, this may make great sense for the long term of the team. I have no knowledge of this particular situation, and it may be completely political, but you asked for a argument on the logic.

The 8th grader is 2nd in points on your team, behind her sister. She must be doing something right. Last time I looked you need to have assists and score goals to win games. Disagree this is a forum to do this.

The 8th grader is second in scoring because the words pass and teamwork are not in her vocabulary I see what you're saying but IME it still takes a skilled player of any age to single-handedly (as stated by you) to score. I've seen a lot of ball hogs get stuffed trying to hotdog it all by themselves. That said, it is also my experience that when younger players get brought up they are less up to speed on the concept of teamwork as a whole.

No, its to make the player better. It makes the team better down the road. Happens in many programs all over the country.

No, its to make the player better. It makes the team better down the road. Happens in many programs all over the country. Just make sure the kid plans to stay in your district. A few years ago, a coach (not girls and not lax) brought up five 8th graders who started over HS'rs. The coach's stated purpose was that he was "building a dynasty." After their 8th grade year, three of the five went to Catholic HS and one quit that sport to play another.

BOTC and our readers spend a great deal of time covering the top end programs; occasionally, just seeing a single game for its own worth is valuable.

You know there are over 20 teams in div 1 they all have worthwhile girls who play great at times. Sometimes these girls play for average teams and are above average players who get no recognition because they are not from top programs. Don't be so arrogant. Look at the top 10 points leaders in Suffolk County. They don't all come from the top programs!! These programs and their girls deserve a little recognition too!

That 8th grader had 3 goals today in a 11-9 win against a good Hills team and that sophomore goalie you threw under the bus had an incredible game - the Fios MVP. Next year your daughter should go out for the softball team. Maybe you would be happier. She obviously will never see the field because she has no skill or athletic ability. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Hey unhappy Sachem East mommy or daddy - or should I say F.G? ....Did you see today's game result? you were there. The sophomore goalie you threw under the bus had 11 saves and was names MVP by Fios High School Sports and the 8th grader led the team in scoring with 3 goals and one assist. She now leads the team in assists. In other words, being a team player is in her vocabulary. The back up junior goalie did a nice job last year stepping up when the starting goalie broke her thumb, but the sophomore is more athletic and a better overall goalie. You hate her because she plays YJ club lax and lives in the block as the 8th grader. Shame on you for crying and whinning in public but keeping your name hidden. All the Sachem parents know who you are. Go SYAG!

She will play on a competitive college team, and she will do very well. Since you want to throw out initials here is one for you C.T. . he got the coach her job, yes the sophomore goalie is friends with his daughter and thats why she starts. That coupled with a feud between F.G. and C.T. Both the coach and C.T. should be ashamed of themselves for taking C.T's revenge out on a teen age girl. YOU ARE BOTH COWARDS!!!! In any other school district, the 8th grader plays j.v. at best . She is not a bad player but to small to defend , and to raw on attack, but because of mommy and daddy she's on varsity. Anybody that has a daughter that played youth lax in sachem knows the story behind C.T. and F.G. and for good reason they keep there mouth shut, we have all taken in the lesson. That family runs Sachem East Girls Lacrosse, and the district allows it. You either accept it, or risk having your daughter sit like F.G. And one last thing, how are you going to defend the out and out dirty play that same sophomore goalie pulled off with 5 seconds left in the game? her reckless play hurt that girl. Is that what Sachem East lacrosse is.

No, its to make the player better. It makes the team better down the road. Happens in many programs all over the country. Based on the above theory, shouldn't you then have the entire Middle School team play JV or Varsity....It will make the kids better and tsubsequently, the team gets better down the road... If the kid is one of the best 10-15 kids in the District and she is going to get plenty of touches, then she belongs on Varsity. If not, play age appropriate. Have her help her peers get better!

If you are going to make the argument that no 8th grader should be brought up then you are just plain wrong. There are some 8th graders that benefit and deserve to be brought up and by the stats it looks like she belongs, yes I understand the stats do not show the true picture. As far as her size give me a break I have seen many players who in person are small in stature but play big on the field .

What does that have to do with another HS that doesn't drawing from the middle school if needed? We scrimmaged Sachem East and the 8 th grader was way better than most of the other kids on that team! So if your REALLY talented 9th grader was left off the team it certainly wasn't because the 8th grader took her spot. There were plenty of other players that were less deserving to be on that team! She is 13/14 years old, God bless her she is a good player and I am sure worked very hard to earn that spot. It was obvious by her stick work!

What most people don't get is Garden City is consistently good because of the youth and middle school teams, They want to produce good players, not just one or two. Don't scream at there 4th and 5th grade girls and kick buckets of balls over when they make mistakes. They teach all there kids , not just there own. Every school system should take notice of this , but some how they don't. In G.C. there is nothing special in the water, and no magic pill, they all work together and it shows.

So what do you want to talk about Since you asked, the moderators here at BOTC want to move the discussion off your personal single threaded focus on this Sachem East issue. End of that discussion as it has been beaten to a pulp. Capiche?
