Of the five boys mentioned as Top 2018 lacrosse players - does anybody know if any of them play multiple sports?

did anyone get an invite for the prep lacrosse showcase? is it true that it is open only to private school kids? if so, what do you think of that?

My son is a Public school applicant and we haven't heard yet. It's their party and they can invite who they want. Doesn't seem unfair to me.

I posted the info on the Prep School Showcase. My son is a public school kid, and did get an invitation. We have friends who do go to NE West schools who went in the past and that is where their looks and eventual commitments began.

I have no idea if they have a quota system or how they parse out the invitations between kids going to NE West and other prep leagues versus uncommitted players from public schools. That same group is fielding a club team this summer, and most of the coaches are from schools like Trinity Pawling, Deerfield, Salisbury, Brunswick etc., so I would imagine that it is a very prep school heavy invite list.

Need advice for friend. Son is 2018, "A" student, multi-sport athlete and excellent lacrosse player from a non-hotbed area. Not a man-child, but not small. Has gotten good coaching and had fun on travel team, but team just doesn't go to recruiting events. Hasn't played HS yet and, in any event, HS coach isn't connected with D1 coaches (relatively new program). They don't have money to chase after a bunch of showcases. Son will probably do a couple high-DI, good-academic school prospect days. Interest from Ivies or partial scholarship from good academic school would be ideal. Maverick Showtime is closed and unclear whether too late for Black Card. Didn't do 3d Blue Chip in FL because of expense.

Any advice on what showcase he should focus on for this Summer? If family could identify just one, they could at least try to take the initiative to get an invite.

Thanks in advance,

Honestly, based on the above, wouldn't do any showcase besides Maverik or Black Card or maybe Prep Showcase if you could still get in. Others not worth it in my opinion. Based on the situation/where we are in the year, focus on the prospect days. Then get on a top club team for next fall, get to Philly Showcase in the fall, and more prospect days in the winter.

That would depend on what general, non hotbed, geographical location you come from. I would suggest going to Wolverine War as independent, there is a nice coaching turnout and you will get seen.

Call a team like Outlaws or Express and see if they can add your son for the summer to their top team, those types of teams always do top events and help with recruiting.

Outlaws is money grab. They already have 30 kids on that team. Express is good, but your best bet is to look outside long island for a D1 recruiting club team like 3D or New England Storm. They have big connections.

Outlaws not a money grab. Club is doing 10 summer tourns and best kids go to best tourns. Their top 5 tournaments are as good or better than any other club for exposure. No more than 22-23 on sidelines per tourn. If kid is a stud he will go to best tourns. Well known fact that another 2018 team had 32 kids on sidelines last year. Not the Outlaws, sorry try again. BTW, what team does your superstar play for? Watch, crickets now...

I didn't do anything, my son did. Funny, the coaches we've met with, and spoken to from the fall, had no recollection of a 7-4 win or an 8-5 loss. Do you really think it's still about who wins the games? That's funny. Do you think the only kids that will get recruited are on Extreme or Terps for the class of 2018 on LI, just because they win a lot? There were 120 plus D1 recruits and probably another 250 D2 and D3 recruits from the class of 2014. Most weren't with one of those clubs. Do you see how silly you sound? It's about individual performance and exposure. I'll ask again: What team does your kid play for?

The Prep School Lacrosse Showcase is NOT just for private school players. Because of the timing of the event, the majority of the players are from private schools. However, public school players have always been considered. Last year approx 2 dozen players from quite a few public schools participated.

Ok Mr outlaw lets see how funny it sounds
Two games top teams and your 3-10 outlaw team at same time at same tournament
Mr coach is not going to your game period unless he is watching particular player. He is going to a team that is proven Not 3-10.
Wake up and smell the coffee. There is only one reason to have 32 players on a team- Money for your pocket-. Heck 24 is allot.
Stop with straw man argument justify 32 players on one team

Its very interesting how players and their abilities are changing so much in this particular year. Many of the boys are now maturing at an incredible rate both physically and mentally. It is amazing how coaches especially college coaches are so willing to commit to players at such a young age (14 and 15 years old). I think we all have been around those boys who seem to be way more physically mature than the others on his team. Most of the time they are the biggest, fastest, and best on their team at a young age like 5th through 8th grade. Interesting thing is most of these boys will have reached or peaked on height and size earlier than most. There is a nice indicator its called parents. Usually if dads 5'5 odds are kid will grow a bit taller but not a whole foot. It is during the next few years where many boys will pass these early bloomers in height and weight. If the skill was there these boys now will have the edge. So parents don't fret if your boy isn't one of these early commits. Teach them to be hungry and work hard because their time will come. Remember an early commit is just verbal, nothing more. These coaches really only care about one thing and it's their job. Some do it with more dignity and honor than others but it's still a job. They need to win or lose their job. Good luck to all the boys in 2018 and keep working
