How did the top teams do at LLL this weekend?

Long Island teams had a good weekend it seems. SWB not so much.

I think its a combination of obviously great LI teams, but also their physical style of play. The refs, after being on a field for hours, tend to swallow the whistle, lots of crosschecks and 3 seconds go uncalled.

Swb needs an overhaul at younger ages. Don’t be surprised is some of the younger teams 26-30 jump over to Coppermine. I know you will argue not true but just watch.

Coppermine Blue teams maybe - don't see any upgrades coming from SW to Coppermine's Black squads.

Why would any 26 girl move from SW to Coppermine? The teams are not competitive and they don't have a recruiting history.

Sorry - I wouldn't include the 26 team in that analysis...but 27 and below there is a major talent discrepancy. SW is a dying club.

Nobody in their right mind would leave SWB to go to Coppermine. At the 26 age group or any age group for that matter. Now we are just being ridiculous. Next topic!

At the 28 level I would.

Smart ones will as they see swb continue to crumble. Their owner can not do this much longer and new and younger directors are improving their clubs around them.

Yeah, who wouldn't love being a part of the 2029 SW team for example. They had a great weekend at LLL going 0-4 and losing 16-2 on average. What SW is doing to those girls is child abuse.

I agree. The SW 25 blue class is dominant and will recruit well. All after that will be a struggle, but some kids may transfer over to take advantage of the SW name/connections when it is their time for the recruiting grind.

Look at commitment lists for the graduating classes of SW. Now go back a decade and look. SW will be just fine.

They'll have to re-haul their younger rosters to keep that track record going.

Agree, no one is going to Coppermine. No recruiting to speak of at all and other than 1 team, they aren't very good as a club. Why risk going to a club with lots of promises and recruiting that is still at least 3 years away.

This is almost identical to what the Redshirts Lacrosse Club owner was saying three years ago.

You're kidding right? You are comparing what someone said about a defunct club to a club that has been around for almost 2 decades? SW displays their commitments all over their social media year after year. Really easy to see where they send their players year after year. Where does Redshirts display anything other than celebrating the director's own kids and that's about it. Do me a favor, don't come to SW. We don't need you.

They always do. The younger age groups always start like this. By recruiting year, the teams are well oiled.

2025s were very competitive at this point two years ago. Things have changed.

The 27s have improved dramatically in the last year. Now that that class is entering HS, they will get even better. They will be a top 10 team next year. HS recruiting changes the landscape and while Coppermine is very good at the younger ages (28 and 29) they have no recruiting history.

SW 27 is never going to be a top 10 team. They are a good solid team. But not even close to top 10 talent. They have performed better based on girls that were cut from other top teams.

SW 27 isn't going to jump from #35 to "top-10" because its HS time.

They also have not improved that much, ton of talk about them improving but hasn't really happened yet. (Went from 43rd to current 35 if you want to count that)

I wouldnt continue to argue with parents over whether Skywalkers is strong or not. Just take your kid to Skywalkers to play. You'll be better off. The test for Coppermine will be if the 27's and more importantly the 28's can retain players going in to high school. If those two teams stick together and get some high level recruiting going the will be able to continue to pull girls who may have previously gone to SW. If they lose players going in to high school it will be harder to convince girls to stay. The 28's will be in high brackets at tournaments which will help.

Every Skywalkers team is weaker in the ranking this year vs last year except for the 2027s which went from #43 to #35. Probably easier to improve when weak players can help an even weaker team. Not exactly a fact that screams go to Skywalkers.

Neutral observer here. SW has obviously been a great club and isn't going anywhere. They'll certainly be "fine" for a year or two, maybe longer if the owner says healthy and manages to defeat father time, something no one else has figured out yet. But to say that the local club scene isn't going to change and future commits will be the same as past commits when the owner of Coppermine is throwing cash around like it's water is silly. They now have 4 teams in the local market (2 Balto, Carroll, and Harford), very strong teams at 27 and below (better than SW), and good coaches and management. College coaches go to where the best players are. They aren't going to sign SW players simply because the club used to have the best players.

Past history committments. They will come for good players at any club. The talent is way down at Sw 26 - 31. Truth! They can’t sell ice cubes to an Eskimo as you want to believe will happen.

You clearly have a history. If you have followed the conversation AT ALL, you would see we are referring to the high school years. But you go ahead and take your Truth! and go elsewhere. SW isn't for you and that's ok. 26s will be fine as will all of the other teams.

26 isn’t as talented as those above. Take your average talente to D3.

I detest to break up the fun here, but everyone should hit the brakes on the D1 or bust thing. D3 can be a better deal all around, even for girls that could make many D1 teams. You can get as much money (won't be listed as an athletic scholarship), high level of play (some teams are near mid-tier D1 level) and better quality of life. You shouldn't use D3 as an insult, even on this silly forum. I'd be willing to be you that the majority of girls that go straight to D3 are overall happier with their college sports experience than their D1 counterparts. If your kid is a true top-tier lax player, like top 50 in the country at her age group, and lives, eats and breathes the game, D1 is the obvious choice. For everyone else, they should at least be considering D3 as a serious option, even when they could make a good D1 roster.

Those who care more about who they play for would rather ride a bench than play D3. It’s those who give d3 a bad rap here.
