Which Elite team has the best athletes? Never had a kid tryout or play for Hawks....but.... Hawks. I say that only because when they pull the rosters together at a young age, speed is the focus, not stick skills or IQ. Speed is the culture of their program (let's ignore the culture of the eastern shore/Calvert Co dads lol). Coaching is above average (or better) and the boys who can deal with the pressure, get better and remain among the fastest. It is hard to lose at youth lacrosse if every member of your team is faster than every member of the other team. That said, the entire 2028 Elite bracket, aside from KP, is well stocked with high quality athletes. BLC has some pretty tough and fast guys, but their starters would be 2nd or 3rd line at Madlax and might not make Hawks due to lack of speed, despite being plenty skilled to play there. This guy sounds like a clown. You don’t have a kid on the team, but you know what the culture is? It does not take a genius to figure out what a team's priorities are if you 1) have watched them play, 2) know the kids they continue to add to the team. Even a clown can figure it out.

Hawks has several Outstanding athletes for 2028 that would be decent to good on age at 2027.
Same for Madlax and to a lesser extent NL. Those Hawks were struggling to keep up every year as 27s. That’s why they joined us at 28. It is what it is. Every team has them.

Anything of note in any of the non-elite divisions in HOCO? Surprises in under/overperformance or other takeaways? This board thought 91 would be winless and terrible. They aren’t. Preds aren’t good but they certainly aren’t awful either. Team MD is better that probably expected.

Not sure who ML will reclass but hopefully bigger stronger attack. The best ML attack are the BLC middies who moved to ML and are stuck on a second or third line.

Fomer BLC middies who r actually attack? Huh? There are two former BLC middies on ML (both moved over years ago). One has been there so long he shouldnt even be considered former BLC. The other joined ML 2 to 3ish yrs ago. Both have always been middies and play a lot. There was one recent attack transfer from BLC but only stayed around ~1 year and has since moved to NL.

Yawn, don't care about Predators, but they could be undefeated in AAAA and the BOTC consensus would still be "horrendous, basically rec." Speaking of AA teams, let's get back to the hot topic that the bottom of Elite isn't much different than the top of old AA (new AAA). Team MD won AA last year and was considered a joke by the players and parents of old AAA (new AAAA). So how's that going. Are we really 100% sure that Team MD (a 2021 AA team) couldn't beat Crabs, BLC, or KP?

Madlax 2028 should change their slogan from 'Run DMV' to 'Ask Us About How Good We Were in 2nd grade.' And for some of their kids, 2nd grade was like 6 years ago. As much as people have personal issues with the program, it's impressive how competitive ML has been with a group of kids that has been largely stable since 2nd grade. But the odds are against any program accurately identifying 15+ kids who will be amazing middle school athletes when they're in 2nd grade, and ML doesn't seem to be able to draw 90+ kids to tryouts like Hawks. Maybe that's MD vs. VA or maybe it's reputational, but at some point a shallower talent pool seems bound to catch up to ML unless they can figure out how to bring kids in at positions of need. ML will just reclass even more players Is that really an answer though? Do they have a dominant 27 FO or goalie who could just drop down? And even if they do, what does that do to the 2027 team if they don't have tons of kids at tryouts there to replenish? If MadLax is looking for dominant face off play and goaltending, they’re not going to find either on their own 2027 team. But I bet they are taking a close look at other 2027 teams rosters and looking for kids at the usual holdback schools. I’ve watched MadLax goalie play several games and he is definitely above average. I’m not a ML parent. Goalies have good and bad games that become more obvious than other positions. It’s hard to form an opinion after only a game. They tend to get hot and cold.

Take away the 14 year old from Richmond and Madlax 2028 would be in bottom third of HoCo Elite. It's not just a FOGO issue. There's not a player on that team who'd start for Hawks. Our sons have played a variety of the kids from Richmond and Tidewater, and honestly they need 1 or 2 years of athletic holdback to compete at a high level. The overall lax product coming out of VA (south of Fairfax) is not amazing, to put it kindly. Not justifying it, just stating the facts.

Prob one of the oldest kids in 2028, but single holdback. Anyone born after Sept 1 2008 is single holdback. Not outlandish. Would love to see all of the DOB’s posted for each team, with no names attached. Just DOB’s….

Crabs will beat KP by 6-7++ True stays closer to Hawks. 12-4 Almost nailed it. BLC got 3. Crabs blew out KP by 6-7+ True kept is to 9 (although couldn’t break the seal) The NL game was interesting, FCA bounced back nicely. Would be curious to know if they had a chance to win it late, losing by 1.

Kudos to KP for going elite and they play hard every game and have some good players and size. I thought Blue Claws or maybe Team Md should have been elite but they both did not want to face the top of elite with ML/NL/Hawks. KP got better for challenging themselves and will likely beat those AAAA teams this summer. True is tougher to gauge since they do have elite talent but a short bench with a large drop off. If they recruit and add some pieces they are elite for sure. if they lose even of their best players they drop very far in divisions.

KP is (by a small margin) the best old AAA/new AAAA roster...still to this day. Not only did HoCo want them to play up this year, but KP is trying to stop the historic exodus of talent that happens after 7th and 8th grade, as (I assume) True is trying to support them in fielding HS age teams (not typical for a rec based club), and I know the kids (and probably parents) wanted to see them at Elite. The results on the field were predictable but that could be said about so many other clubs from AAA to Elite who are either new, or trying to find where they really belong. Would love to see a discussion between KP (moved up) and Blue Claws (stayed in AAA/AAAA) coaches and parents about what they think the trajectories of the two teams are. Similar clubs with similar talent, etc etc. Different markets in terms of HS club teams in their area. Both trying to retain some really good talent.

I think trajectories of the three bottom elite teams are all different. KP probably will have the toughest time staying in elite given that other elite teams are fairly close to their market and they don’t have a history of retaining high school talent. They have a couple of very good players at some key positions but are pretty thin overall. Kudos to them for playing and competing at elite. BLC probably has an upwards trajectory. They have some good athletes and as they transition to DC Express in a couple of years the coaching will likely pick up and help them recruit players. I’ve seen them play a couple of different times and they are actually pretty good except they hemorrhage points in transition and probably will need either internal improvement or upgrades with the specialists. I think this team will stay in elite and be competitive in the 8th grade year. True Annapolis is in between. They have some very good talent and the coaching seems solid, but they are very thin. I think it could break either way for them in the future.
