Anyone who wants to pay to play. Not true it’s highly selective no coach recommendations so they avoid political ties. It is solely based off application, film, and accolades. If you look at the names of kids who were accepted outside of just Long Island they are all names you hear a lot around the 24 scene

Which Long Island kids have made best in class? Sofia Conti, YJ Weiner Emily Haugen, YJ Ramos Kayleigh Corr, Jesters Black Kate Hearns, Jesters Black Tess Calabria, YJ Weiner Riley Zusi, Legacy These are all very strong local players and deserve all the recognition How do you know who “made it”? Is there a list? Isn't it just a sign up thing?

Have to apply first. And contrary to what someone else said, not everyone who applies is accepted.

The people who claim these events are money grabs are the kids not able to get into them. We didn't apply because there is a camp on the same days that we want to attend, but had we applied and not made it it would be because they didn't see something in my daughter. I wouldn't turn to the internet and act like it's all a money grab because my kid didn't get in.

Is there a list? Isn't it just a sign up thing? It's on their social media posts and stories. They make announcements daily. It looks like they are on the last wave of invites. Looking at the list above, there are four St Anthonys players. There is also a trend of where the kids who made it are coming from, so while it may not be as political as events like NYSR, Under Armor, American Select, etc it does seem like they're attracted to certain clubs. It makes sense though because YJ does have some top talent on their A team and a few who are somehow on their B team.

Agree with this. This is a 2024 thread as our daughters begin the recruiting process and not bashing other clubs would be a great start. There are parents on here that are not from LI if you can believe that and we do not care about the politics in your area. If you had an older daughter and have something of value to add that is great, but let's keep it to current opportunities for 2024's. Many parents are just trying to navigate the process and bounce ideas off other parents and egt feedback on camps and clinics. Take it or leave it…. From someone who has been through it multiple times. 1 - Do not rely on Club (use the club as a resource but do not rely on them) reach out to anyone you know who might have a relationship with a coach at a school that your daughter is interested in (club director, club coach, Hs coach, current/former player at the school etc…) 2 - Identify and list a number of schools that your daughter would like to attend (and play lacrosse). I would recommend going on the NCAA Lacrosse website, go to rankings, select RPI (you will see all of the schools that have Varsity Lacrosse. You can do it for DI, II and III. I would start with a large number. 2 - Develop a plan and help your daughter “market” herself to the schools. Email each coach (head coach as well as assistant coaches at each school) introducing herself and expressing her interest in the school and the program. Be persistent without being obnoxious / annoying. Update the coaches from time to time making them aware of what events she will be at, new film available, etc… 3 - make sure that your daughter understands that coaches look at things other than scoring a goal. - always hustle off the field, never react negatively to a teammate I.e. if she gives a perfect pass to her teammate and she drops it do not react in a negative way. If she is a middlie be sure to hustle back ( sprint) to get on defense (it’s okay to trail the play when going on offense, it’s not okay to jog back to play defense). If she plays attack redefend with as much if not more effort than when going to the goal. If she is a defender slide with conviction, talk/communicate and never show dejection if she gets beat 1v1 . Teach her that it is the next play that matters just like a goalie. Every goalie let’s in shots and every defensive player gets beat. Stay positive when her team is losing, fight harder when things are not going well, encourage her teammates when they make a bad play, pat them on the back, pick them up. Fight like heck for ground balls. Make the right play I.e. if the right thing to do is move the ball then move the ball… if the right thing to do is clear space then clear space, if the right thing to do is go to goal then go to goal. Unless your daughter is one of the best 50 - 100 players in the country the little things are what will make the difference. (Actually, in many cases it is all of those little things that make the difference for many of those top 50 caliber girls). In recent years I can think of two # 1 ranked recruits that were not big goal scorers , they were all around solid midfielders who did a lot of their work between the 30’s, played good defense and were very smart players who hustled all over the field. Many parents (scratched their heads) But every coach in the country wanted them. 4 - have some reach schools but remember the recruiting process will generally tell your daughter where she stands. Help her to stay positive as other players commit or her dream school does not express interest. Be willing to engage with any school / coach that expresses interest. If a school/coach expresses interest and your daughter is not interested look to schools with the same caliber of lacrosse program that she might be interested in and reach out. Do not turn your nose up, do not burn bridges, coaches, especially assistant coaches move around. Engage with any and all coaches who express interest. 5 - do not base everything around lacrosse!!!! For example , if your daughter wants UNC, UVA, MD, PSU, Florida, Michigan but she is not at that level look at similar schools that have strong Club Programs . It’s about education, experience and best fit. 6 - the process is very fluid, every time a player commits there are a bunch of coaches out there adjusting their lists and priorities. As players are taken off the board other players move up on coaches lists. 7 - remember the process is different for everyone, help her to stay positive and to keep an open mind. This crazy process is a life lesson, learn and grow throughout journey and try to enjoy the ride. Yes, I know it was long but hopefully it is helpful to some. Best of luck I love this advice. Everyone should read and live by it.

My belief is that conferences already with the sport will have the next schools to add. I would think Texas would be a great add with a lax only venue and a strong club team but they along with Oklahoma are moving to SEC. No women’s lacrosse teams in that conference and the only NCAA team in Texas is U of Dallas(D3). Too much travel expenses for those teams to add unless the whole conference decided to add it. Hopefully with more growth in the those states over the next few years it will happen.
Watch out for ACC schools- NCState, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami and Wake Forest
AAC(American)-Florida Atlantic, UNC Charlotte stated 2 years ago they were adding WLax but seems to have stalled,
PAC 12 and the west coast- hopefully as the MPSF conference only has 2 teams- UC Davis and San Diego state.
CAA-College of Charleston, Northeastern, UNC Wilmington
ASUN-Bellamine, Central Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, UNorth Florida, Eastern Kentucky, Cleveland State
How about a school like West Virginia? Close to many lax schools but they are currently in Big 12. There is a tremendous amount of realignment as football schools look to grab TV $$. So who knows what the future will bring. Rumor is the next two D1 women teams will be NJIT and Miami (OH). Potential start of 2024 for both Despite the growth of Lacrosse elsewhere, the Northeast will still be prominent for a long time. Some Midwest and the Atlantic states will add but heaviest recruiting is still on the east coast.

Title 9 has brought so much opportunity for women. 124 D1 107 D2 293 D3 42 NAIA Many more club teams at great schools. Some schools have an NCAA and club option. Schools are adding women’s lacrosse constantly and who knows how many will be added this year. Seems to be a spot for everyone. So much fun! 24s enjoy the ride. Check out Newsday's College Commitment page ..... you can compare what type of college opportunities lacrosse provides compared to other sports like soccer, basketball, track and field / CC, softball, field hockey etc... Not only are there way more girls going to play lacrosse in college (from Long Island) there is no comparison in the caliber of schools. Oh wow, you are so correct. So many great academic choices. Thank you Title 9.

If you think like that, please do not instill that type of attitude in your children. Does anyone know if there are rules regarding reclassification? For instance can you start Kindergarten late, Reclassify freshman year of HS and then go to prep school 2 years after HS and start College at 22 or 23? Think about that advantage for the 23 year old freshman.

I think you are looking at 1 and 2 year reclass now. It is an advantage and you prob. have to be wealthy to do it. That’s why it’s becoming even more of an elitist sport with more people choosing to do this re-classing to get advantages. Crazy

UA150 deadline is today. Any comments on it of any kind would be appreciated. (application process, evaluation, experience, value) Lots of good players and lots of games. Best in class is new and similar concept. Some 24 from Long Island doing that one. Best in Class is run by Deemer Class. He's awesome and truly cares about the kids reaching their goals of playing in college. UA 150 was a well run event. Both are good options IMO. Best in class is way less political. UA is about the club coaches favorites. If your team has a mommy or daddy coachs kid who applies expect them to get an automatic spot because they will give a spot to their own child before anyone else’s. Yep- expect YJ, 91, and any other teams with. mom/dad coaches to have their kids on those rosters solely because they are the coach. Their kids will be among the weaker at the event. 91 coach doesn’t even show up to practices so her daughter making a team is the least of the concerns. Is this the same coach that was at YJ

Crazy For sports that are based on grade and not age you will see people trying to gain an advantage early in the youth process. I always think it’s dangerous and unfair that people hold kids back. As far as kids doing an extra year post HS, their are many sports that do the same thing. Lacrosse seems like the worst. That is why the boys side was so enamored with the World Series of Lacrosse because they put restrictions on age.

There should be age restrictions early in the youth game and should be an age restriction for starting freshman year. Unless of course you are military. Probably unlikely because there is too much $$ involved with the prep schools. A whole industry of the rich and famous would be negatively impacted if they leveled the playing field.

Agree that youth sports should be age based. But an age based restriction for starting college is a bit much. The resentment and animosity directed at people of means is really sad. The whining and making excuses why their child is not being offered a spot at one of the top lacrosse programs or top academic institutions or in some cases both is also sad. For some, it’s always something i.e. politics, pay to play, friends & family, connections, club affiliation, coach favorites, parent coaches etc… now it’s wealthy people reclassing or choosing to do a PG year that is making it unfair. Most parents I know are hoping that lacrosse will help their kids get into a school that they would not get into based on grades alone and or to possibly get some financial help. All of the nonsense about fairness, politics and whatever other excuses will go out the window on September 1. The recruiting process lets all of the players and parents know just where they stand. But even during the recruiting process there will be complaints of politics and the rest of the BS.

Very funny how you draw on someone else’s observation and turn it into a whining fest about everything that is unfair. I look at sports as a means to an end for some but not necessarily all. But it doesn’t have to be that way because in the end, it’s just a game. It hopefully teaches some life lessons about hard work, character and being part of a team. Sadly, one of those lessons is that life isn’t fair. Actually in some instances very unfair. Wouldn’t it be nice if the playing field was completely level and nobody was able to manipulate the system?

The reality is that there are a lot of delusional parents who believe that their child is entitled to make all the teams and lists/rankings. They are incapable of believing that other athletes are better than their daughter, they simply can not see it or admit it. Now we are hearing complaints about holdbacks, reclassing and PGs. In our town youth program they would not allow players to "Play Up" with the grade above even if the kid was capable of doing so. The parents complained that it wasn't fair. They even tried to restrict players from playing for club teams (more so on the boy's side) because it wasn't fair that some players could make the top teams and many other players could not. It is all BS and in the end the college coaches will offer spots to the players that they believe will help strengthen their program. When kids start committing there will be parents complaining about all of the same nonsense.... "it's not fair", "her father has connections", "our club director didn't help" etc... All BS.

NJIT makes a lot of sense as American East sponsors the sport. That would leave Maine as the only school in American East without women’s lacrosse as a varsity sport. Hartford is dropping down to D3. Plus they already have a men’s team. Miami Ohio is another great choice as a member of the MAC. That’s a growing conference for women’s lacrosse with several schools having new programs, YSU, Akron, CMichigan, Detroit Mercy, EMichigan and Robert Morris just moved from NEC. We have a club parent on the NJIT Board. Apparently Miami is no really a secret, it has been in their athletic strategic plan for a while and was delayed due to Covid. Thank you for sharing. The news hasn’t officially dropped yet but hopefully soon. Check out the Lacrosse Growth Blog. It shows all the new college programs along with the press releases It’s amazing how many schools have been added in the last year or even the last 6 months. D1, D2, D3 and NAIA. Getting an education while having a healthy balance of athletics is an amazing opportunity.

---- "It’s a privilege reserved for the wealthy." ----
If you think like that, please do not instill that type of attitude in your children. Does anyone know if there are rules regarding reclassification? For instance can you start Kindergarten late, Reclassify freshman year of HS and then go to prep school 2 years after HS and start College at 22 or 23? Think about that advantage for the 23 year old freshman. If you are wealthy and can afford to re-class at 50-70k per year in private school (can’t reclassify in public unless failing grades), that re-class advantage could be a real scenario! I think you are looking at 1 and 2 year reclass now. It is an advantage and you prob. have to be wealthy to do it. That’s why it’s becoming even more of an elitist sport with more people choosing to do this re-classing to get advantages. All BS. I don’t disagree with most of what you said. Playing up is one thing or having certain kids who are stronger making A over B teams etc -but adjusting your status so that you will be older/stronger for sports is manipulating the system and twisted. And not in the same category of any of the other things you said.

The majority of kids that do a PG year do so at the request of the college coach and in most cases it is done in order to improve grades and test scores so that the student athlete can gain acceptance to the university. I have seen some complaints on here about fairness and wanting a level playing field so that there is no advantage. The fact is that there is never a level playing field, all things are never equal, someone will always have an advantage. Some parents will always complain that something isn't fair.

Think about that advantage for the 23 year old freshman. Yes, you can hold your kid back in Kindergarten (and many parents do). Yes, you can reclass, I believe it is usually done in 8th or 9th grade. Yes, you can do a PG year. This has been going on for a long time and it is done to put the child in the best position possible, to give the kid an advantage. These options are available to everyone and people have been doing it for many years. I went to college in the mid - late 80's and there were several kids on the team that did a PG year and were probably held back in kindergarten and yes, a HS friend reclassed / repeated 9th grade. I recall kids getting "left back" in early elementary school they were young for the grade and were having a tough time keeping up. Traditionally the reclass / PG year has been done by wealthy families but now more and more people have been exposed to the potential advantages. To each his own, do it or don't but it's not worth complaining about.

Everyone is completely missing the boat on this discussion. Yes, in many cases kids reclass to gain a physical advantage on the playing field and in turn, in recruiting. This kid already got recruited, then decided to reclass. It probably has more to do with where she is going. Stanford is literally the hardest school in the country to get into, and while the coaches can get these students some wiggle room with grades and standardized testing, the kids still need to meet minimum requirements. This is most likely a year to get grades up, get the required AP classes in, study for SAT, ACT, then hopefully roll the dice to gain admission. The advantage of reclassing in this case, is most likely for academics, so I suppose it is still a wealthy family option, but I have zero problem with it.

--- "You can call it what ever you want, but the girl is entering college a year after what would be typical. It’s a privilege reserved for the wealthy." ---
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not a privilege reserved for the wealthy and it is not a reclass. In most cases, the student athlete is asked to do a PG year by the college coach, most of the time it is academic related and most of the time it is done with kids who are committed to the best academic schools. If the student athlete has a commitment from lets say Princeton, Yale, Stanford but needs to pull their grade up a bit most prep schools will take the kid (at least on the boys side) and there is plenty of financial aid available for students who need the help and even for some who are wealthy. It benefits all parties, student, prep school and University. The prep school gets another kid that graduates and goes to a top university, the athlete gets to mature and the college coach get the player that they want. Many of these prep schools have huge endowments so financial aid is generous. The players do not do a PG year in order to get recruited, they are already recruited, they do it so they can mature academically (so the coach can get them through admissions) as well as athletically.
Many of these Boarding Schools want to have competitive athletics as well as competitive academics and they want to place students at the very best Universities, If the coach really wants the player, they have the ability to make it affordable.

The reclassify early in youth and then HS is disgusting in my opinion. What happens after HS and prep schools might be questionable in some instances but maybe not the one that is being currently talked about. Stanford is a top school athletically that has extremely high academic standards. If my daughter was recruited by them and told she needed to go to prep school to get her grades up,,, well I would be a fool not to do everything humanly possible to make it happen. Hopefully this isn’t going to be a trend so that people with modest means don’t have the pressure to keep up. Remember we are talking about education and a game.

The boarding schools have the ability to be generous with financial aid. If the school / coach wants to admit the student athlete the school will make attendance affordable. These schools have endowments in the Hundreds of Millions in some cases maybe even in Billions. I have not seen many girls go the PG route but it is used frequently with boys. Maybe the girls just have better grades than the boys 😁. In any event, most student athletes that choose to do a PG year do it in order to bolster their academic credentials because they already have the commitment but they don’t have the grades necessary to get accepted.

[quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]UA150 deadline is today. Any comments on it of any kind would be appreciated. (application process, evaluation, experience, value) Best in class is way less political. Is this the same coach that was at YJ Yes she was a yellow jacket coach, went to bandits, and now is merged with 91

Post Graduate. I believe it was originally used by wealthy families whose kids didn’t have the grade coming out of HS to get into elite universities. It than became a way for student athletes who didn’t have the grades to get into a college even with the help of a coach. Many athletes from many sports use the PG year in order to get into college. Many college coaches would like all of their recruits to do a PG year.
