As the boys mature, coaching will matter more. Look for the teams coached by experienced and successful high school and former collegiate coaches (there are plenty of re-tread mediocre coaches out there) to excel while others regress. Talent can only get a team so far. Implementing the proper schemes for the personnel you have and developing both the individuals and units in all phases of the game are paramount to continued success of a club team.

But will these new schemes help your son get recruited? A college coach wants to see kids run plays and know lacrosse (Have a Lacrosse IQ) But what he really wants to see is what kind of athlete he is. Can he beat a guy one on one. Can he shoot/catch in traffic. If your team is over coaching, playing Zone on D it will help you win games but when you are in high school it should be way more about the guys with the clip boards not he moms and dads.

Doesn't hurt if your coach and directors are well connected either. Love them or hate them, guys like Millon, McClarnen, Kelly, Reese, Buggs and co. have a lot of connections in the college coaching ranks.

Buggs Combs has zero connections except for maybe UMBC. Anyone who is on that API team and thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

HS club has minimal practice time -- a few fall and maybe 8-10 summer. Good club coaches will have minimal schemes and let the players show their skill & IQ. Their school coaches now lead their development. Hopefully club program gave them a solid foundation

Two separate discussions: 1) Which team is best: yes talent, coaching and how you match up against team a vs team b matters. Parents and yes players care (no one likes to lose) but the college coaches don't care. 2) Which clubs get you recruited? Do the more established clubs have better and more regular communications with college coaches. Sure. But if you're a reserve on this top notch club when developmentally and PT wise you would be better off playing for another top tier club I would contend you should switch clubs. If you're a blue chipper, it doesn't matter. With early recruiting gone the way of the Dodo bird, high school coaches are more important than ever. In the A Conference, the college coaches will watch you on film, see you live in the summer and ask the other Conference coaches (as well as your head coach) all about you.

These are good points and the value of HS and Club is based on a different set of circumstances for every player. There is NO one size fits all model. Many of the top HS private school programs are dominated by Jr's and Seniors who are already committed or almost committed. The club may provide better exposure in those cases. There are still such a thing as college walk on's who bloom late. Unless a player is a real outlier in skill I would rank as follows:
1. Grades (school specific for example IVY still uses the AI index)
2. Camps and showcases where the coaches work with you up close and personal
3. A players' own efforts. Players need to email coaches of schools they are interested in.
4. Club program as it is hard for a coach to see a HS game.
5. HS Team

This is not to say that any of these are not important. It is a given that all top players need to play both Club and HS. If a player is not on a good club that may be a red flag. However, good players do get recruited from lesser HS programs more than good players for lesser clubs.

Where was API this Fall? I did not see or hear of them? Did they play in any decent tournaments, or did they take the fall off?

Recommendations from a few of the coaches you mentioned above would almost be a disadvantage to your player trying to get into certain colleges. One of the biggest problems with lacrosse parents who try to keep up with the fashionable stuff is that they believe(even pay for) the hype and B.S. some of these guy are dishing out. (Millon, McClarnen and Buggs to be specific)

Everyone is practicing with their teams. The kids who separate from the pack are the ones doing the extra running, lifting, wall ball, shooting and working with position coaches.

If bringing in guest players is all about winning, then that's on the coaches/programs. If it's about giving kids from outside the area a chance to play against stiffer competition, then I can live with that. If by doing so, it sidelines a kid who's paid his dues (literally) and practiced and played regularly, the altruism starts to lose its luster. That said, seems that it hardly bears mentioning at this point, as guest players have been a reality for years and that isn't likely to change.

4 - 91 Maryland - Solid defense. will this team drop if #9 plays 2023?
5 - FCA Blue - Improved over team that was hitting stride at end of summer.
6 - Prime Time - Size and athletes. Always competitive.
7 - Crabs - Added solid talent and always in the mix at the HS years.
8 - Roughriders - Won Crab Feast and beat Hawks last 2 times out, but not eye-popping.
9 - Madlax - Undersized but talented. Can steal games.
10 - Edge - Unpredictable, but dangerous.

Smash can be bet even with Jr.

Of course it's lacrosse so anyone can be beat but I will say if jr is playing w crush and smash it's doable with him playing double the games in a weekend. if he's playing with just smash that weekend he is a near impossible cover last year we witnessed it. regardless Smash without him is just average.

Pretty much ... except for a couple kids.

Pretty accurate...BW=two good players, solid goalie, and Evergreen

They are all well connected to the college recruiting process. Even Buggs who was a stud at MD and played at every level with many of the current college coaches from D1-D3.
However I do not think they give out recommendations unless asked by the school and at that point I do not see how their option could hurt a kid just because its them giving the opinion. Sure many of these guys may not like each other on a personal level and many parents dislike them but if your son is playing for them you will have an advantage come recruiting time. If certain college coaches make a decision on a player because of the club coach instead of all the other stuff that comes along with it then that would be just sad and I can't believe that ever happens. If a player shows interest in a school and school to the player the negatives and positives will fall into place. Not a fan of this guy but if a college coach gets an opinion from one of the greatest attackman EVER who happens to have been teaching youth lacrosse for 25 years or so , my bet is they listen. Even if they don't like the guy.

Rough Riders MD has to be higher on all these list. They are better than any team in Md with the exception of maybe the Hawks. They have always had the Hawks number so many think they are better. Yes there can beat and yes they have been beaten but not one team on any of those list want to play them.

Spot on. If that PVI middie leaves, that team is not very good at all.

Crabs steamrolled RR the only time they played last year. Wasn't even a game.

Top 10 in the country on the list above isn’t high enough? By the way, the anonymous BOTC top 10 was way more accurate than the USClubLax one.

RRers had a most successful summer and a good Fall. Whether they'll be able to build on that, only time will tell. As for the "RawRiders" slight, just a cheap shot from a, I suspect, cheap source.

Didn’t the Hawks win HOCO 3 years in a row or something like that? RR play HOCO?

Hawks glory days. Middle school lacrosse. Enjoy being a bottom feeders in the miaa at Spalding. Can’t buy wins like you bought those new Spalding helmets.

New high school helmets are good. At most schools you have to make the team first not just go to the school and buy one at the book store. Well maybe that’s the reason Spalding are bottom feeders. John Carroll will have more wins this year than Spalding.
