nothing. once coach gives a verbal commitment, the minimum academic requirements are established. the student athlete is not required to take the SATs necessarily.
however, if they fall way short of academic standards, the early committed player may be required to attend a year of prep school... I think only in very rare circumstances for an elite recruit would the SAT/ACT be waived. The norm is commit, take the tests, go thorugh admissions (with coaching staff support) and be accepted. Some may get into a "reach" school but I highly doubt an Ivy is accepting a "C" student with poor or no SAT scores unless he fits some other demographic. Plenty of smart quality lax players out there, no need to dumb it down. I am curious if an IVY or Better D1 school who a 2015 kid verbally commits to and does not do well on their SAT will accept that school them? Are their any actual cases out there with experiences like this or similar? Please respond. Thanks.

Ivy's do not verbally commit, they commit to the admissions process and they are told exactly what they need to score on SAT and or ACT's as well as taking a difficult schedule through senior year - every year kids that had "verbally committed" early do not get accepted.

Most Ivy League coaches will have a very limited number (four or less) golden tickets which allows the coach to have a candidate accepted on the coach's work based on pure athletics. While you might see this as a complete waiver of academic requirements, the candidate still must pass admissions albeit against a slighly relaxed set of standards. To be more specific, one Ivy League soccer coach in the New England area indicated off the record that an SAT I two-way score of 1280 would clear admissions with a golden ticket although normally a 1400+ would be expected. As we said earlier, a college coach also does not want to set-up a student-athlete for failure in the classroom, particularly in non-revenue generating sports. The other item of note with Ivy League schools is the "likely letter". Generally targeted at athletes, the "likely letter" is a preadmission commitment from the institution that the student-athlete will likely be accepted with continued academic performance and athletic support from the coach.

It is a shame to hear how many are not out there practicing or even running as a team. This is where you need to work hard, bith coachs and players (JV and Varsity).

Question, what happens to the say 2015 kid who verbally commits to a college and then does not do well on his/hers SAT exam? The kid still has to go threw the admissions process - the application will be supported by the coach and that is how kids get into schools that they might normally not get into but a condition that the coach will make very clear to the player is that they still have to be accepted by admissions. I have always thought that this is the one out that a coach might have on a commit he may lose interest in, the coach can not support the admissions application as strongly as was expected and ooooops sorry you didn't get in. Happened very recently with a boy from Garden City and Duke. Garden City seems shaky on this front.

Do you think the the football and basketball players are being held to the same lofty standards for admissions at many of these colleges??? Ivies and a few high profile schools, maybe. Many others, no way!!

I am sure at Duke the hoops players are held to those standards. You commit and you have to keep grades up. This will happen again be sure

Ivies and a few high profile schools, maybe. Many others, no way!! Double standard is the wrong phrase. Football and basketball both have national exposure and for some universities are money making businesses which generate hard income for the university in addition to driving alumni donations. Given that there is not a lacrosse team in the country that is a money making entity for their associated university, you will start to understand why there is a "double standard". Basically, why lower standards and lose money at the same time? The discussion is actually that simple.

I have he is just in 5th grade - crush'em! Find me an attackman that can rush the passer and I can get the same standars applied for him Question, what happens to the say 2015 kid who verbally commits to a college and then does not do well on his/hers SAT exam? The kid still has to go threw the admissions process - the application will be supported by the coach and that is how kids get into schools that they might normally not get into but a condition that the coach will make very clear to the player is that they still have to be accepted by admissions. I have always thought that this is the one out that a coach might have on a commit he may lose interest in, the coach can not support the admissions application as strongly as was expected and ooooops sorry you didn't get in. Happened very recently with a boy from Garden City and Duke. Garden City seems shaky on this front. It's a double standard for lacrosse players. Do you think the the football and basketball players are being held to the same lofty standards for admissions at many of these colleges??? Ivies and a few high profile schools, maybe. Many others, no way!!

What about yesterdays Pequa vs Wantagh game? Who won? Do not know how we missed this game as it was one of the day's top matches. In the end, Massapequa defeated Wantagh, 16-6. The Chiefs scored eight goals in both halves which does not tell the full story - Massapequa exploded in the fourth quarter scoring all eight second half goals in that stanza. Heading into the fourth, the score was 8-4 and Wantagh was never really "in" the match.
