What are folks thoughts on the Brine National Lacrosse Academy?

I've heard expensive, not very "elite" and no recruiting value, but others have said they liked it.

Total scam. If you don't mind paying a lot of money for a vacation, then it's fine. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and money. Zero recruiting benefit. Some kids are good, some kids can't play.

The organizers make a ton of money and that's the focus.

Who's going to win the capital box tourney?

Lax Factory, Rochester Jr. Knighthawks, & Madlax Capital North Stars won their 1st games.

It's really cool so many of the NLL Jr. teams are participating. There needs to be a Jr. Thunder or Jr. Arrows/Wave teams as well.

This tournament was a lot better last year. Sweetlax, Team 91, Blue Star all sent multiple teams.

Not so much this year. Pretty much just local teams. Quality of play has gone down big time.

Any tournament that combines ages (u9, u11, u13) is geared toward rec teams and not the highest competition. The grade based tournaments are usually have much better teams.

Unfortunately - this is true - which speaks volumes about what is wrong with this sport.

I can tell you why... rules and officiating.

This tournament does not use real box rules (USBOXLA or other sanctioning organization). So teams that come in from out of town that have played sanctioned tournaments all the sudden don't know the rules.

This set of rules may be what Madlax uses for their winter league, and I guess that's OK if you're used to that set of rules, but it's not real box. And even those rules that draw from real box aren't usually called correctly because the officials don't have an appreciation for or any real training in box.

There are a lot more fights at this tournament then I generally see at other box tournaments, and I think the rules and lack of training for officials are a big reason for that.

Box has a reputation for being a "rough" game, but I think that's more because of all these factors playing out, not because the game in and of itself is rough. It certainly can be more physical, particularly in close with moving picks and all that, but trained box officials tend to call slashing, roughing, and checks from behind a lot tighter to keep the games under control. And don't get me started on interference.

No, the teams were pretty marginal. Much better lineup. Those teams from the north must have found a better event closer to home on this MLK weekend.

Look at LF 2021 and 3d 2021 being in the finals. Those are two very marginal teams. The lineup overall was weak.

19 teams that have AA or better players in 8th grade. Around 400 AA plus players. Times have changed in the last few years.

It is so mom and dad can say the kids play AA. We called Elite A and AA "B" when we were in HOCO a few years back.

Winter Box season is coming to a close and the spring is almost upon us. Knowing that Box is not a true indicator of what lies ahead on the big field, what 2021 Box teams did well this past season?

Hawks won MMILL but the competition this year was not as stiff as years past.

Hawks are a great team and will do well outdoors, but the MMILL was not traditional box from what I understand. Crabs and DC Express have good box programs.

What Box leagues do the 2021 Crabs and 2021 Express play in?

Express may play in the DMV Premier League but I thought that was just a bunch of play days and not a real League. (Not that you don't get better on play days)

Hawks(Green) just finished in 1st place and undefeated in the High School JV Division of the 3d AILL.

did st. Mary's HS not have a JV team in league? Hawks 2021 went in as St. Mary's? I know there are many kids on hawks that go to St. Mary's, but isn't the hawks coach the SP varsity coach and not st. Mary's related? sounds fishy.

Hawks -Green beat; Spalding, DeMatha x 2, Severna Park x 2, Broadneck, Annapolis, and some others.

ST Mary's has their own team in the league. They could potentially play one another in the playoffs tomorrow.

STM JV (9th & 10th graders) beat Smartlink (Hawks-Green 8th graders) 11-9 in the championship. Great game by both teams
