If you are a team with no kid older than August 2002 and you have a normal range of kids hitting puberty, it's pretty much impossible to compete with AA teams who are loaded with older kids or early maturing kids. Hardly the end of the world, of course, but I don't see how college coaches find the best players watching 2021 teams when so much of a kid's relative ability on the field is tied to when he hits puberty. Anyway, if your son wants to play at PSU or Michigan or Hopkins or Maryland or UNC (some great choices there that early recruit), it's the smart play to either hold your kid back or move your early maturer to a AA team like that. I'm just glad my kid's favorite two D1 schools (for lacrosse and in general) put the breaks on early recruiting.
